Autumn Greetings!
Dear Friends,

Falling leaves, crisp mornings, and cozy scarves...all signs that Autumn is finally here in the Bay Area!

With Breast Cancer Awareness behind us, our focus now is on holiday fundraising and planning the return of our People with Purpose Gala on Saturday, May 8, 2021. Our gala will have a fun twist (more on this below) and will be a "don't miss" event!

Our Program Stores are beautifully decorated for the fall season and we continue to observe local, county, and state Covid-19 health and safety protocols. In addition, we recently welcomed two new HERS Team members, Tanya and Sara. Check out their profiles in this issue and join us in giving them a warm HERS family welcome!

Lastly, because health care reminders bear repeating, please remain vigilant about breast cancer awareness and your overall health, particularly during this challenging time when concerns about Covid transmission might deter you from scheduling medical appointments.

Commit to perform your breast self-exam every month and contact your health care provider about breast cancer screening.

On behalf of our team, I wish you well!

Tina

People with Purpose - a Pink Pajama Party
We are SO excited that our fabulous fundraising gala, People with Purpose, is returning on Saturday, May 8, 2021! And since this party will be virtual, we're trading our traditional "pink tie" looks for (drumroll) pink pajamas!

Now we know that part of our traditional gala's appeal is wearing a special gown or tie in your favorite shade of pink yet let's think outside the formal wear box! Since we'll be virtual in 2021, we're embracing change, if only for this one gala.

Be elegant and glamorous in sumptuous satin or silk or cuddle up in comforting flannel when you tune in. Whatever your style, you'll enjoy a festive, unforgettable evening while you support under-served breast cancer survivors.

Our People with Purpose Pink Pajama Party will include entertainment and HERS Award presentations, and tickets for this online event will include a Pajama Party Box full of special treats to help you relax and feel pampered!

Gala-specific updates will be land in your mail and in-boxes soon. Can't wait or have questions about sponsorships or in-kind contributions? Call (510) 790-1911 for details.
Premier Nissan and Subaru Dealerships Raise $11,425!
Our generous Community Partners, Premier Nissan of Fremont and Premier Subaru of Fremont (pictured above), and Premier Nissan of San Jose have DONE. IT. AGAIN.

The three dealerships collectively raised $11,425 during Breast Cancer Awareness Month by donating $25 for every new or used car purchased during October. And that's not all they do for HERS patients! They're also dedicated supporters of our Walk/Run/Yoga fundraiser, generously sponsoring our parking, t-shirts, goodie bags, and race management. We're so very grateful to them!

If you're in the market for a new or used Subaru or Nissan, consider purchasing from Premier Nissan of Fremont, Premier Subaru of Fremont or Premier Nissan of San Jose. Support businesses who pay it forward!
Mission San Jose Chamber of Commerce Grant
Speaking of support, Esther Gonzales (pictured right), President of the Mission San Jose Chamber of Commerce, stopped by recently with a grant check.

The MSJ Chamber donated $300 to offset the impact of Covid on our Foundation. We're grateful for their investment and honored to receive it.

If you'd like to learn more about the Mission San Jose Chamber of Commerce, email info@msjchamber.org or visit their website: www.msjchamber.org.

Thank you, MSJ Chamber of Commerce!
Fremont Flowers Gives Back
We're grateful, too, to Dirk Lorenz, owner of Fremont Flowers!

Dirk is donating a portion of each sale of the beautiful preserved rose arrangement pictured here to benefit our Assistance Programs.

Order yours with the HERS ribbon to show your support for breast cancer survivors or ask for a custom ribbon with your own message. Either way, this gorgeous arrangement will be a memorable holiday gift or a luxe addition to your home.

Call (510) 797-1136 for more info or to order yours today.
Program and Service Updates
Join us in welcoming Tanya, a new HERS volunteer. We’re thrilled to have her on board as a Hair with Care Program Wig Specialist.

A hair stylist since 1986 and 22-year owner of Millennium Salon in Fremont, Tanya's clientele includes multiple generations which is no surprise given her warmth, professionalism, and expertise!

Tanya didn't hesitate to step up when she heard of our need for a volunteer cosmetologist and shares that supporting our patients is a pleasure and an honor. Tanya enjoys “bringing light, joy, and self-confidence” to survivors and, because she’s bilingual, can assist patients in English or Spanish.

Our Hair with Care program is available at our Fremont location only in a dedicated space that provides a private salon experience. We carry a wide range of beautiful wigs by Dream USA, Henry Margu, and Jon Renau as well as accessories and products to keep your wigs (and you) looking gorgeous.

If you’re a breast cancer survivor and would like to book a consultation with Tanya, call (510) 790-1911.
We're also happy to welcome Sara, who is a Breast Care Specialist in training. A 10-year survivor, Sara is excited to give back to the community and fellow survivors and shared that she's "happy to serve patients and lift their spirits."

Given her personal journey, Sara (pictured here with her son, Bryan), has a deep understanding of breast cancer and the patient experience. Her own path included mastectomy surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation treatments.

Key to Sara's survivorship is her positive outlook and active lifestyle. An avid cyclist and runner, Sara frequently participates in charity runs (including the HERS Walk/Run) with her son and members of her fitness team, Too Legit to Quit.

Sara is a Fremont resident, is fluent in both Spanish and English, and looks forward to compassionately supporting many more HERS patients.
