David Pharr and Jason Watkins honored at Symphony at Sunset

.....Each year at Symphony at Sunset, FRF recognizes citizens who make Fondren a fun and vital community. This year's recipients, Jason Watkins and David Pharr, fit that description in spades.

.....FRF President Liz Brister made the presentation at the 22nd annual event featuring the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra on the historic grounds of the The Cedars.

.....Pharr and Watkins were recognized for their 15-year journey of redeveloping Fondren's "Strip" into an entertainment complex featuring The Pearl, Highball Lanes and The Capri.

....."For good or bad, we've planted our flags here and intend to make Fondren the most interesting, diverse and flourishing community around," said Watkins.

....Watkins and Pharr were presented with art pieces created by Fondren artist Elizabeth Robinson.

Partridge: Unframed at UnWrapped

.....Artist Jerrod Partridge will host a pop up art gallery in the Woodland Hills Shopping Center (former Glo space) during this year's Fondren UnWrapped, November 10-12.  The art show will feature small, unframed drawings and paintings by Partridge and other artists.

Prado named Belhaven's Top Alumnus

.....Fondren business leader Gabriel Prado was named Belhaven University's Alumnus of the Year in a Homecoming ceremony last Friday.

.....Frank Laws, pictured right, made the presentation during the annual Alumni Awards reception.

.....Prado, pictured left, is CEO and President of PraCon Global Investment Group and has more than ten years of real estate experience including multifamily, commercial, residential and industrial development.  He is currently redeveloping a five acre site on Meadowbrook Road into 215 residential high-end lofts.

Zundo Ramen to open soon in Fondren

.....Zundo Ramen & Donburi is expected to open its doors at 3100 N. State St., former Dumbo's site, in the next 60 to 80 days.

“My friend has a ramen bar in Cincinnati, Ohio. So, actually I’m bringing his brand here,” said Kam Ngal who has opened multiple Asian restaurants across the metro area. “I like the Fondren area. I think this will be a cool concept for the younger crowd.”

....The restaurant will feature authentic ramen - not the dehydrated stuff you buy at the store - with noodles made in-house.

.....“This is more a Japanese-style. So, we house-make all of these, the soup base also,” he said. “If you’ve been to a bigger city, you’ve seen a lot of ramen restaurants.”

Fondren Live continues through December

.....Live music is planned for the next two "first Thursdays" in the Fondren Business District as Fondren Live continues through the end of the year.

South Wind to play at November Fondren Live

.....Look for these five musicians, after 12 - 18, playing near Duling School on November 3.  The band play a mix of 2000-2020 pop and rock covers.

Marie Hayden and The Lonely Hearts will be on the patio at Fondren Guitars for November 3, Fondren Live.

Photographer Clay in Fondren for opening

.....Photographer Maude Schuyler Clay will be exhibiting her photos of legendary Memphis band, Big Star at End of All Music on October 29. Clay will be present for the opening at 5 p.m.

.....Photos will be available for purchase.

.....Clay's work will also be on display at the Mississippi Museum of Art, October 29 - March 5.

.....Friends of USA IBC volunteers Emily Sandoval and Allison Brown Simmons of Brown's Fine Arts & Framing are helping to raise funds in support of the 2023 International Ballet Competition with a holiday wreath and garland sale.
