The News & Notes You Need to Know About

First Public Budget Hearing

The City of Cooper City is preparing for Fiscal Year 2025. The City Commission will hold two budget hearings this month as we work toward finalizing and approving next year’s budget, which will become effective October 1, 2024.


Residents, businesses and stakeholders are invited to participate in the process as the proposed budget is reviewed. Both hearings will be held at City Hall located at 9090 SW 50 Place, Cooper City, FL 33328.


  • First Hearing: Tonight, September 12 at 5:31 PM (See the Agenda)
  • Second and Final Hearing: Tuesday, September 24 at 5:31 PM

Commissioner Lisa Mallozzi Appointed to Serve on Florida League of Cities Finance and Taxation Committee


As a Legislative Policy Committee member, Commissioner Mallozzi will help develop the League’s Legislative Platform, which details priority issues that are most likely to affect daily municipal governance and local decision-making during the upcoming legislative session.

Pickleball Court Maintenance

The pickleball courts at Suellen H. Fardelmann Sports Complex remain closed due to resurfacing. The project is progressing well and we expect to reopen the pickleball courts by September 20, 2024. Pickleball courts are also available at Forest Lake Park.

Capital Improvement Project

Cooper City Utilities Launches Water Service Replacement Project Within Flamingo Lakes Townhomes


Cooper City's Utilities Department commenced a water service line replacement capital project on September 10 within in the Flamingo Lakes Townhomes neighborhood, specifically in front of properties along Lake Loop Road.


During the scheduled work, contractors will be excavating in the roadways, parking areas, and up to water meter boxes. There will be temporary service interruption when the new water services are connected to each individual's property for approximately fifteen minutes.

Bulk Waste Collection in Cooper City

Bulk Waste Guidelines Reminder


Please remember to follow all bulk waste collection guidelines to allow for efficient service. If disposing of any glass material, you must place all glass in a sturdy rigid container to allow for safe collection. Glass that is not safely separated from other bulk waste will not be collected.


Additionally, please remember the collection truck needs overhead clearance to safely pick up bulk items. Please do not place items abutted to trees or mailboxes. Items should be placed in an open area.

Solid Waste Authority of Broward County Community Engagement Meeting

The Solid Waste Authority of Broward County will be hosting its first Community Engagement Meeting. This Authority is made up of a group of county and municipal leaders, who are calling on the public to help develop a regional solid waste system for Broward County that is more economical, environmentally friendly, and innovative.

Parks and Recreation Master Plan Workshop

The Cooper City Parks and Recreation Department has started a process to develop a Parks and Recreation Master Plan.


The purpose of the Master Plan is to determine the need for improvements to existing parks, facilities, and programs as well as identify opportunities for new facilities, trails, programs, and recreational services.

The Green Advisory Board invites you to a workshop focused on helping Cooper City residents cultivate landscaping that brings native plants to the forefront, while also being pollinator-friendly.


Refreshments and lunch will be provided, but guests must RSVP to save a spot.

Gym Member Spotlight

Each month we recognize our outstanding gym members for making Cooper City's Pool and Tennis Center a part of their fitness journey.


This month, we highlight Gladys Aguero and Susana Neville. We asked them to answer a few questions to know them a bit better.


How long have you been a member of the fitness center?

We have been members for approximately two years.


What inspired you to start your fitness journey?

We are sisters and retired at the same time and we wanted to stay active so we could enjoy our retirement as we grow older.


What is your fitness goal?

To continue moving to maintain strength and balance as we grow older.


What is your favorite way to work out?

The stationary bicycle, weight machines and the fitness classes offered by Cooper City.

What piece of advice would you give to someone just starting their fitness journey?

Start slow, don't overdo it, don't give up, and make fitness a priority every day.


What's the most surprising benefit you have found from working out?

The most surprising benefit is losing weight, having more stamina, and meeting new people that have the same goals.


Do you have a post-workout routine or something you like to do?

Getting together with people we have met in our classes and gym and enjoying their company.


How do you stay motivated to come back to the Pool and Tennis Center?

We set personal goals and weekly deadlines to keep us on track.


What is the best thing you like about coming to our facility?

When we enter the facility, the employees at the front desk always greet us and the other individuals we interact with while exercising.


What are your favorite sports teams?

We are football fans - Florida Gators, Miami Hurricanes, Miami Dolphins.


What is one interesting fact most people do not know about you?

Most people don't know that we are sisters, we are very family-oriented, and we enjoy traveling with each other all over the U.S.


If you could work out with any celebrity or athlete, who would it be?

We love swimming so we would work out with Katie Ledecky.


If you have a workout playlist, what are the must-have artists?

Gladys' playlist is Adele and Susana's playlist is Abba.

Step into a Fitness Routine


The Cooper City Fitness Center is located at the Pool and Tennis Center located at 11600 Stonebridge Parkway within the Rock Creek community. An individual annual gym membership starts at only $85.60 for seniors (age 62+). An individual annual membership for Cooper City residents, age 14-61, is $139.10.

Touch-a-Truck is a chance to get up close, sit behind the wheel, honk the horn, and explore the interesting vehicles you see on the road every day.

Are You a High School Student in Need of Volunteer Hours, or Know Someone Who Does?


The Parks and Recreation Department is offering a Student Assistant Volunteer Program for Cooper City residents. 


High School students can earn volunteer service hours through our Student Assistant Volunteer (SAV) Program. Volunteers can assist staff during Aftercare, Kids Day Off, Winter and Spring Break Camp, and the Parks and Recreation Department's special events.

Home Watch Program


Did you know the Broward Sheriff's Office Cooper City District has a free Home Watch Program?


With this program, a deputy will check your home regularly while you are away. An exterior check of your home will be conducted to make sure there have been no unlawful entries and that no other obvious problems have occurred outside of your home. To sign up for this FREE service, please fill out the Home Watch form and visit the BSO Cooper City District Office (10580 Stirling Rd.) to complete registration.

My Safe Florida Home


The My Safe Florida Home Program offers eligible home owners the opportunity to make an application for a wind mitigation home inspection free of charge by the State.

Fingerprinting Services


The BSO Cooper City District is now providing complimentary fingerprinting services to Cooper City residents and business owners. Fingerprinting is available by appointment only on Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to noon and Thursdays from noon to 3 p.m.

What to Do If 911 Does Not Answer:


If a Cooper City resident calls 911 and receives no answer, there's no need to panic. You can call the BSO Cooper City station directly at 954-435-2000. It's worth noting that Cooper City's BSO station is the only BSO district to have a staffed lobby 24/7, 365 days a year.
