Quick Links for Online Worship and Fellowship

EFM

Education for Ministry (EfM) starts its new year at 3:30pm in St. James on Monday, September 7th. This years theme is Living into the Journey with God. EfM meets each week for 3 hours from September through June. Year 1 participants study the Old Testament, Year 2 studies the New Testament, Year 3 studies Christian History, and Year 4 puts everything together in Theology. In addition each Year reads the same 2 texts, one around Christmas, Jesus and the Disinherited by Howard Thurman and the second around Easter,The Four Vision Quests of Jesus by Steven Charleston. The discussions are lively and engaging and the community that is developed well worth your time. Speak with Amy Crocker or Bernie Winthrop if you are interested or have questions about the program.

Wednesday Spirituality Discussion Group

Meets every Wednesday morning at 10:00 AM in the carpeted section of Walden Hall. The group is currently discussing the Gospel of Mark. If you would like to join this group, please reach out to Deacon Elizabeth Whitmore. All are warmly welcomed!

Thursday Morning Holy Eucharist, Book Discussion And, Breakfast Group

Please consider joining our weekly gathering on Thursday mornings in Walden Hall at 8:30 AM. All are welcome! Each week different participants take turns facilitating the discussion and contributing tasty breakfast treats.

The Preschool is back in session and it so nice to hear the children playing and laughing as they explore our beautiful grounds with their teachers.

The new Outreach Action Team had a well attended brainstorming session that generated lots of new ideas and enthusiasm. More news to follow soon about an exciting new outreach initiative called Laundry Love.

Father Michael and Charles have been kept very busy attending all the Meet & Greets. All of the slots are currently full on our online sign-up sheet but we will be announcing one last Meet & Greet to be held in Walden Hall in late September or early October. More details and an online-sign-up coming soon!

The Children's Church Team is busy planning for their monthly offerings for the children of St. Mary's. Everyone is encouraged to join in and share their thoughts and gifts.



Angels' Treasures Thrift Shop has been bustling along, busy as always continuing to build our treasury for Outreach. We are always looking for more helpers in the shop.

And as always, St. Mary's parishioners are busy finding ways to love and care for one another, for our church, and for the vulnerable in our community; whether it's through Inreach, like our Pastoral Care Team members working together to support those who are facing health struggles or Outreach, like the crews serving up delicious food and LOVE at Faith Family Kitchen, Miracle Kitchen or at Hands of Hope Food Pantry. St. Mary's is busy being God'd Hands in our world.

Celebration of New Ministry

Please join us for a very special night at St. Mary's, Tuesday, September 10 at 6pm as we celebrate with Fr. Michael, his installation as the eighth rector of St. Mary’s! The Rt. Rev. Alan M. Gates, Bishop Diocesan will officiate. There will be a reception in Walden Hall to follow.

R.O.A.R. Rolling By..

ROAR is a motorcycle ride that raises funds for Cape Cod individuals in need of transitional structured housing moving forward in their continuum of addiction recovery and care. You are all invited to join us in "Blessing the Bikers' " as they roar by this Sunday, September 8, 2024 at 11:45 AM. Fellowship will be relocated to the front breezeway and front lawn to enable us all to support the riders.

Creation Care Forums

St. Mary’s will observe the Season of Creation 2024 beginning the weekend of September 7-8 and concluding with the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi on October 5-6. The theme for this year is “To hope and Act with Creation”. Our liturgy will be drawn from special readings on the theme of environmental justice. In addition, St. Mary’s will offer a series of three special adult forums during coffee hour. Grab a cup of coffee and join us in the carpeted area of Walden Hall from 11:15 AM to 12:00 PM.

September 15 ~ Pastor Russ will lead a discussion of the spiritual dimensions of the climate crisis, and how our faith can help us to help us work for a stable climate where people can live in right and just relationship, interconnected with a healthy, thriving, natural world.  Please click here for more information on the 3 forums.

Movie Theology Matinee on Sunday, September 15

For our season opener, we will be screening “The Lady Killers.” This British film premiered in 1955, and stars among others, Peter Sellers and Sir Alec Guiness.

The plot centers around an elderly widow with a very vivid imagination, Mrs. Wilberforce, who lives with her raucous parrots in a falling down house over the entrance to a railway tunnel in Kings Cross, London. One day she is approached by a man (Guiness) who claims he needs a few rooms to let for rehearsal space for the amateur string quartet he formed and would she be so kind. She acquiesces, unaware of the fact that he and his cronies plan on carrying out a robbery of a security van in her very own neighborhood.

The plot thickens with the robbers using a clueless Mrs. W. as a pawn to keep the disguised money. The ruse ends when one of the musicians drops his cello case and out flies hundreds of bank notes, which Mrs. W. witnesses. I’ll let you find out what happens afterwards.

Volunteer opportunities serving the community outside of St. Mary’s Church:

Faith Family Kitchen

This program provides nutritious meals to anyone who is hungry at the Faith Assembly of God at 154 Bearses Way in Hyannis. Our volunteers are expected to arrive on the fourth Monday of every month at 4:30 PM to help set up for take-out meals and dine-in dinners. Serving and clean-up generally take until 7:30 PM. Please contact Carolyn Thomas or Beth Hearn if you wish to volunteer with this program.

Miracle Kitchen

Once a month on Wednesday, Saint Mary's has the privilege of creating healthy food and fabulous desserts to serve for lunch for 30 to 50 people at the Salvation Army on North Street in Hyannis. This Ministry needs cooks, bakers, delivery people, and servers.  Please contact Sally Cameron if you would like be part of this team.

Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod 

Saint Mary's Parishioners have a long tradition of volunteering with Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod (HFH-CC). HFH-CC partners with families in need of an affordable home to help them build one of their own; fostering stability, self-reliance and a strong sense of community. The elevated cost of housing and living on Cape Cod makes this a very needed ministry in our area. There are many different ways to volunteer with Habitat, and they do not all involve swinging a hammer. Some of our parishioners, make quilts, some provide snack and home baked treats for the workers, some help with administrative tasks in the office, some help with site landscaping. Amazing Grace of Cape Cod

Did you know that Amazing Grace Camp offers programming for children and families affected by incarceration year-round? Many St. Mary's parishioners were involved with Amazing Grace during its formation and many are still actively involved. It takes a community to create and offer a camp experience and a year-round program. Whether you have an hour, a day, or a week, there are many ways you can share your gifts and passions. We need volunteers to work with children at the week of camp and at our monthly activities, and we also need volunteers to help us create programming, promote our work, and oversee administrative tasks.

Volunteer opportunities:

• Camp Mentor: Interact with our amazing kids during morning, afternoon, or overnight shifts the week of camp.
• Camp Specialist: Offer 1-3 hours during the week of camp, sharing a skill or talent.
• Activity Volunteer: Interact with our amazing kids at school-year activities and events.
• Program Developer: Help us find and create fun things for our Amazing Grace kids to do at camp and/or at monthly gatherings.
• Amazing Grace Story-Teller: Help us spread the word about Amazing Grace and its work.
• Recruiter: Help us find kids to join our program, and help us find volunteers to support our work.
• Fundraiser: Help us find financial support to do our work.
• Implementer: Help us with behind-the-scenes support.

Tales of Cape Cod - 2024 Programs

Our neighbors across the street at the Olde Colonial Courthouse have a full schedule of fabulous authors and speakers throughout the Summer and into the Fall. Daffodil Bulb Sale to Benefit St. Mary's Gardens

St. Mary's Garden Committee is pleased to share that this Fall we will be selling bags of 25 assorted daffodil bulbs as a fundraiser to help us continue refurbishing our own Daffodil Meadow. The sale will run from now until October 25th or until we run out of inventory. First come, first serve!

We have hand-selected bulbs that are proven to be successful for Cape Cod growers. Each bag will contain an assortment of the Best Of Saint Mary's Daffodil Bulbs (25 bulbs per bag). We have a limited amount of bulbs this year so be sure to purchase your bag soon. The bulbs will be shipped to us in late October or early November. You will be notified of a pick-up day once the bulbs are on campus. Buy some bulbs for yourself or for someone you love. We promise you won't be disappointed as these are very high quality bulbs.
