This Week of April 14

The Third Sunday of Easter

O God, whose blessed Son made himself known to his disciples in the breaking of bread: Open the eyes of our faith, that we may behold him in all his redeeming work; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

Amen.

A Prayer for our Community in Transition

Almighty God, you know the needs of your Church in every place: look graciously upon the people of Saint Mary’s and grant us the guidance of your Holy Spirit as we seek a new Rector for this parish. Guide the members of our Search Committee as they labor to be faithful in seeking your will. Inspire those who will discern with us, that each may be responsive to Your call. Give us wisdom and confidence in your timing, and in all things help us to seek the path you have set for us to follow. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.

Prayer Requests

If you have additions to our Parish Prayer List, please fill out this,

Last Weekend for our Special Easter Collection

This year Saint Mary's Special Easter Offering is designated to support the Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza.  Click here to learn more about their critical work among the people in this war-torn area of the Middle East.

Miraculously, Ahli Arab Hospital has remained open throughout the months since the attack. It is the only hospital known to be currently operating in Northern Gaza, it has continued to provide critical relief to anyone who is in need of its services. As of late February, this 80-bed hospital was treating over 300 people per day.

Checks to support the Special Offering should be made payable to Saint Mary's Church, with "Ahli Hospital" in the memo field. Your generous donations will be sent to the American Friends of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem and designated to support the work of the Ahli Arab Hospital. We will continue to receive contributions for this special offering until April 15, 2024.

We Need More Coffee Hour Hosts!

Hosting the Coffee Hour in Walden Hall is easy, a great way to meet other parishioners, and help build our Saint Mary's community.

A a host or hostess (we believe in gender equity) you and a companion provide store-bought or home-made finger food goodies for all to enjoy after the 10:00 AM service. There is also a coffee hour after the 8:00 AM service on the first Sunday of each month.

It's all with the help of our wonderful Sexton, Lanny who makes the coffee.

There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board in the sunroom. Click here for more information.

Outreach and Volunteer Opportunities

Barnstable Neighbor 2 Neighbor

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Barnstable Neighbor 2 Neighbor (BN2N) is a group made up of volunteers who serve older residents in the 7 villages of Barnstable who are living safely and independently in their homes. We need more volunteers to ensure that we can meet the service needs of members.

A member makes a request and a volunteer signs up to fulfill the request. Examples of what our volunteers do include:

• Drive members to appointments, run errands,

grocery shop, or to attend a concert or movie

• Do light household tasks including small repairs,

organizing cupboards, putting away groceries

• Guide members learning new technology

like smart phones,tablets, TVs

Volunteers choose services to fulfill based on their own schedules and availability…or serve on a committee.

If you would like to join us in volunteering, please request a volunteer application and CORI form by calling: 508-418-9220

1891 Society

Why do Americans give?

Americans are hardwired to be generous. They find that donating time and money is beneficial to themselves as well as to those helped by the gifts. Philanthropy can help you: pass values to family members about wealth and helpings others; receive tax benefits while doing good; support your goals and keep engaged and informed about issues of importance to you. Philanthropy= Philo means loving and Anthropos means humanity.

If you are interested in learning more about how you can help St. Mary’s Church by joining the 1891 Society, please contact Linda Gadkowski at lgadkows@capecod.net or 508-292-5500.
