Trick or Treat for YIP
A message from Jean Knouse, The Kiddie Korner
|
|
Good afternoon,
This idea is coming to you late because I had the wrong date for the parade on my calendar. My apologies.
When I was a child, Halloween was the time to trick-or-treat for UNICEF. From that experience-in-giving, which I have carried into adulthood, I came up with this idea for the Danville Business Alliance (DBA).
The idea is that from Oct 25 through Oct 31, children - accompanied by an older teen or adult - would "trick or treat" at participating organizations. Children 4 - 12 would accomplish this by picking up a YIP Trick-or-Treat Box at the DBA Office, The Kiddie Korner, or The Knack Creative Studio. During those days (Oct. 25-31), if they visit your store or business, you would give them a gold coin and thank them for helping our community. Each gold coin represents $.50 that will be given in the child's name to Danville's YIP Organization. If you want to also give a small treat, that is up to you.
Participation will cost $25 and you'll get 50 coins. Each additional amount of coins will cost $25.
ALL of the dollars will be given to YIP
, even if all of the coins are not distributed.
My descriptions aren't always as clear as I hope they will be, so if you have any questions, please call me, but PLEASE let me know if you want to participate ASAP.
Thank you.

Engaging young people in philanthropic “giving” is the purpose of the Foundation’s
Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) program.
YIP provides high school students with an opportunity to learn about philanthropy and participate in the grant making process. Students from school districts across the region form teams that research school based and community needs and strengths. Through surveys, interviews and consensus, each team develops criteria to prioritize their grant investments.
Students gain experience in teamwork, community needs, running meetings, building consensus, nonprofit finance and other topics. The program culminates with year-end celebration where each team of students presents their $5,000 in grant investments to their school and community. Eight school districts are participating in the program: Benton, Berwick, Central Columbia, Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech, Danville, Northwest, Shikellamy and Warrior Run.

The Exchange and DRIVE Host a Strong Towns Event in Bloomsburg on November 7th
|
|
Join us at the
Greenly Center in downtown Bloomsburg on Thursday, the 7th of November, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
, as special guest Charles Marohn of StrongTowns.org talks about “The Foolproof Town: Identifying Productive Places".
No cost to attend, light refreshments available.
Among the questions that Strong Towns raises: What development do we want? What do we not want? What does “development” even mean? And how do we ensure wealth creation that benefits all of our fellow citizens?
Wherever you live in Columbia or Montour County – in town, borough, or township – these questions matter to you and to your communities: to your families, friends, and neighbors. This event aims to energize the region-wide discussion so people from throughout the Counties will work together to find answers for each of our places and for our region as a whole.
Please RSVP to Oren B. Helbok at The Exchange: 570-317-2596 or
Exchange@ExchangeArts.org.
The Exchange thanks our lead sponsor, DRIVE, which serves the economic development of both Montour and Columbia County by providing professional services to help businesses create and retain family-sustaining jobs.
