Music This Week

MUSIC MINISTRY THIS WEEK. Todays music is performed by Yvonne Miller.

Yvonne will be singing Amazing Grace, My Chains Are Gone” and His Eye Is On The Sparrow” (Denise Williams).

Yvonne Miller, Mid-Western born and raised, joined her first group, a traveling gospel quartet, at age 16. She moved to Florida with her parents in the early 80's where she went on the road with her first band at age 21.  A few years later she started singing sacred and Gospel music in a large church in Ft. Myers, FL. There she met her husband and started a family. She continued singing while raising a family, until she moved to central Florida in 1999. She then spent 20 years homeschooling four sons, until one day six years ago, she found herself in a band once again, entertaining Villagers with her music. Since then she has been in a Jazz quartet, a Doo-Wop harmony group, and her band she started four years ago, called the "Jay Rubin Band." She also formed a 2nd band, called "Konnection", that performs hits of the 70's and 80's. The Jay Rubin Band can be heard regularly at both City Fire restaurants, as well as her duo with Kevin O'Connell, who performs at Red Sauce Restaurant every other month.

Yvonne attended Concord High School (Indiana) and studied at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois from 1979 to 1980. She married her husband September 12, 1987, and has 4 boys. Yvonne is lead vocalist for “Back In Time vocal group”, a Villages rock band:

“While listening to the radio in the backseat of my parents ’64 Ford as a young girl, I was always singing. Middle school choir was one of my first memories of singing harmony. From there, I couldn’t listen to a song on the radio without being drawn to the harmonies. From the Beatles to the Four Seasons to the Bee Gees…I love all harmony.

I started singing solos in church as a teenager and joined musical theater in high school. I minored in music in college and had many wonderful musical experiences, like singing in a 100-person choir performing Handel’s Messiah. During this time, I also toured Indiana with a Gospel quartet.

I moved to Florida after my first year of college and was asked to join a “Top-40” band as lead vocalist. I spent a year and a half on the road (’81 – ’82) touring the states of Florida and Georgia with the band. After that I joined a large church choir and started performing in major musical productions at Christmas and Easter. After meeting my husband and getting married, I continued performing in this way, even while my children were coming along. I spent 21 years homeschooling our four sons and stopped performing the last 10 years of it to focus on them and their talents.

In early 2017, by fate, I was given the opportunity to join a local Villages rock band. Many opportunities started to open up for me from that, including joining a Jazz Band and “Back-in-Time.” I fell in love with a whole new genre…DOO WOP! Now, I can’t wait to see what the next 10 years will bring.

Billie Thatcher will lead the congregation with “Oh How He Loves You and Me”  “We Are Called to Be God’s People” and “Great is Thy Faithfulness” .

Harriett Dawson will play the Call to Worship.*

Kevin O'Connell will play the Prelude, Postlude, and direct the music.
