Our Theme for May is  Receptivity
May 1, 2015

Greetings!
Can you believe it's May already? This month we look forward to five Sundays and lots of incoming energies of upliftment and joy with the onset of Wesak the first weekend of the month, followed by Mother's Day and the celebration of the Divine Feminine and mid month we begin our exploration into another one of the sacred sciences - Numerology.

WESAK

For many of you, the name of WESAK may be new, so I hope you will treat yourself to spending some time with me this coming Sunday, 5/3 to experience this annual occurrence.  Following is some information you might find of interest about this event:

Wesak is the celebration of Buddha's birth & enlightenment, & in some traditions also his death. As the most important figure in Buddhism his life is celebrated and revered. Gathering to chant and pray are an important part of a traditional Wesak celebration.

It is said that Wesak is that time at the Full Moon of May in which the Christ gathers the entire Spiritual Hierarchy together in meditation to invoke the forces of Shambhalla. The Buddha, representing those forces, appears and blesses humanity.

The ceremony of Wesak is held in the actual Wesak Valley in the Himalayas at the time of the full moon of May (which is actually the full moon of Scorpio). A vast crowd assembles in the valley, in front of the great rock table at the end of the valley. Alice A. Bailey describes this event in The Unfinished Autobiography. It is said that the Christ and the Buddha conduct the ceremony of Wesak from a rock table at the end of the valley described by Bailey as "...an immense rock, rising out of the floor of the valley like a great table."

The second of the three major spiritual planetary festivals is The Wesak Festival, The Buddha's Blessing, and is celebrated in the eastern hemisphere at the Taurus full moon. (The first, in April, is the Festival of the Christ and the third, in June, is the Festival of Humanity.) Wesak is the festival of The Buddha, divine intermediary between the highest spiritual center, Shamballa, and the Hierarchy.

The Buddha is the expression of the Wisdom of God, the embodiment of light and the indicator of divine purpose.

Wesak - the Sun in Taurus Full Moon, is the most powerful Full Moon of the year. The Sun's transit through Taurus exalts the Moon and Taurus is ruled by Venus, the spiritual ruler of Earth. Venus is identified with Mary, the World Mother. May, the month of Taurus, is the month of Mary. Venus appears in the west as the feathered serpent god Quetzalcoatl who brought enlightenment to the Mayans; in the east she is Maya, mother of the Buddha.  more....

8 Potent Actions  of the Taurus Full Moon

Plant those feet on terra firm. The full moon in earthy Taurus brings us back to a grounded place. Of course, the comfort-loving Bull can also charge, so if you've got your sights set on a target, this might be the day you go after it full-throttle.

Full moons are harvesting times, where we reap the benefits of the corresponding new moon that occurred six months earlier. Check your calendar: the seeds you planted near April 28 (the Taurus new moon-also a solar eclipse) may be ripe and ready to bear their fruit this week. The two weeks following a full moon are a bonus harvest period, so work with Taurus until mid-November to see what arises.

Here are a few ways to invite Taurus full moon manifestation into your life:

1. Do things by the book.

Taurus is old school, and also a pragmatist at heart. Instead of reinventing the wheel or bucking the system, try a novel approach: do things the way they were designed. Our culture is obsessed with the new; the paparazzi chase the attention whores. As a result, everything's gotten  More

ADOPT A PLOT!

By Jackie Watts

We need volunteers to help spruce up and maintain beautiful grounds at UCFSL. For this purpose, I have identified ten areas on our grounds that need tending. Fortunately, five of them have already been adopted by loving and generous church family members. We need additional members to come forth and adopt the remaining areas.

ALREADY ADOPTED:

  • The flower garden in front of Unity House has been adopted by
    Jackie Watts.
  • The Meditation Garden (under the big tree to the right of the parking lot as you enter the UCFSL grounds) has been adopted by
Sandra Broome-Edwards, Frances Davis, Cameron Broome and
    Tyler Broome.
  • The herb garden in front of the worship center has been adopted by
    Janice Maleyeff.
  • The flower planters and ground plants in front of the worship center and alongside the handicap ramp have been adopted by
    Cindy Ridge.
  • Joanie Taylor-Durk
has volunteered to tend the lawn in front of the worship center. She will have the weeds removed, plant grass, water it, and watch it grow!

AWAITING ADOPTION:

  1. The flower planters on the wall of the front steps of Unity House, and the two planters at the end of the walk leading to Unity House need to be adopted.
  2. The Canna Lily plot (under the tree to the left of the parking lot as you enter the grounds) needs to be tended.
  3. The decorative grasses (under the small tree which adjoins the parking lot and is near Unity House) needs to be adopted.
  4. The alley between Unity House and the worship center needs much tending. Hopefully, several people will adopt this area and make it presentable. The lawn care company will help with trimming the bushes.
  5. We will gladly accept monetary donations from those who want to help but are unable to do yard work. We will need money to help buy mulch, plants, stones, etc.

To guarantee uniformity, please inform Jackie Watts of new creative ideas that you have for your plot. Also, please feel free to approach her for ideas and for help with labor.

CRANBERRY-ORANGE

BAKLAVA PINWHEELS RECIPE

Nutty, citrusy, and sweet, these little pastries are easy to make with refrigerated pie crusts, and will instantly become a hit at your next gathering.

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Line a baking sheet with a piece of parchment paper and set aside.

Unroll the pie crusts and mold each of them into a 10 ½-inch square. Brush the squares with melted butter.

In a food processor, place the cranberries, pecans, sugar, cinnamon, and orange peel. Cover and process with on-and-off pulses until the mixture is finely chopped. Spread 1/2 of the mixture onto each pie crust square.

Roll up each pie crust into a log and pinch the edges tightly to seal. In a  small bowl, beat the egg and water until well blended. Brush the egg mixture over each log. Using a serrated knife, cut each log into 10 slices. Place the slices, cut sides up, 1 inch apart on on the baking sheet, replacing any filling that gets lost. Reshape the slices, if necessary.

Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Immediately remove the pinwheels from the parchment to a cooling rack. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of honey on each slice. Serve warm or cool.
