Fall 2023
Thursdays, August 17th, 24th, and 31st
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
*ONLINE ONLY*
| Please join Temple Emanuel in supporting this essential need for the unhoused in the Phoenix community. Donations may be dropped off in the Temple Emanuel lobby during normal office hours. |
Justa Center provides a huge array of services to seniors who are unhoused or in danger of becoming unhoused by providing day programs, cooling centers, access to social workers, nurses, legal help, and much more. They have connections with many service agencies and match seniors with the help they need.
Justa Center needs sun protection items (sunglasses, brimmed hats, lip balm, sunblock) and snacks (individual packages of crackers, pretzels, chips, breakfast bars, and fruit cups) for their resource center.

By group consensus, we use "The Social Justice Torah Commentary" as the lens through which we discuss each week's Torah portion this year.
Please Note: It is NOT necessary for you to purchase this book as we share the text on screen each week. However, if you would like to own your own copy, please click HERE to purchase your copy directly from the CCAR Press. (The book is also available digitally on Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play.)
So, grab a cup of coffee and join us ONLINE at
9:15 am.
(Please Note: This is the same link we use for our weekly ONLINE Shabbat Morning Worship when we do not celebrate with a B'nai Mitzvah family.)

Saturday Morning Shabbat Worship
led by Rabbi Cookie Lea Olshein
10:30 am
Live and Interactive on Zoom
*ONLINE ONLY*
|
Members, please see your weekly Shabbat email for the Zoom link.
During our informal (and interactive) Shabbat Morning worship, we will dig deeper into the meaning of our traditional prayers and liturgical music, while including modern, interpretative versions that will challenge our understanding of our tradition, as well as a short Torah reading. Each week, we will include a prayer for healing and recitation of the Mourner's Kaddish in case you would like to share your personal prayers for those we love who are struggling and those we have lost.
This service works well for both the inexperienced pray-er as well as those well-versed in our prayer tradition (all liturgy, including English readings and transliteration, will be projected on screen).

Temple Emanuel's
Caring Community Needs You!
| |
When someone in our spiritual community needs help, it takes many hands. Won't you join us in providing needed assistance and support?
Perhaps an individual or family is coping with an injury or illness, is grieving or lonely, or is in need of comfort in some other way.
Some of the ways you can show that you care:
- Make a phone call
- Provide a ride
- Write a card
- Deliver a meal
Click below to add your name to the list of "Carers" we can count on!

|
Temple Volunteers Needed!
Temple Emanuel has a long history of having a pool of skilled and dedicated volunteers helping us in the Temple - won't you join this revered group?
Your contributions of time and talent are invaluable to us - it's a mitzvah!
|
Challah Bakers
Ready to show off your baking skills?
We are looking for volunteers to bake small loaves for our weekly Worship Services!
Plain or flavored loaves are welcome, please just don't mix meat and dairy. (Also, our facility is nut free and please let us know of any potential allergens so we can pass the information along.) Click below for more info and to sign up!
|
Please Sponsor an Oneg Shabbat!
Our Temple Emanuel Oneg Shabbat dessert receptions are opportunities for our community to come together and enjoy the sweetness of Shabbat with conversation and refreshments every Friday after services.
We invite you to sponsor an Oneg Shabbat in honor of your family and friends. Gather your friends, Chavurot, social groups, committees, clubs, or family to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, engagements, weddings, graduations, new babies, a loved one’s accomplishments, or any happy occasion - or just to celebrate being alive!
It is a wonderful way to celebrate any special occasion with your Temple Emanuel community!

I-HELP
Sundays 2023
FALL/WINTER DATES
Volunteer to Feed the Hungry in 2023!
I-HELP is an acronym for Interfaith Housing Emergency Lodging Program. It is a Tempe Community Action Agency program that partners with several faith communities, clubs, and organizations to combat homelessness. Temple Emanuel is responsible for planning and preparing dinners and lunches for the first two Sundays of each month.
Jim Flegenheimer, Temple Emanuel I-HELP coordinator, is looking for volunteers (specifically, groups of individuals) to cook and serve food (children are welcome, but should be 12 or older) on the following Sundays during fall and winter 2023. Specific locations in Tempe will be provided by Jim when your volunteer day is confirmed.

Please consider volunteering your time to perform this mitzvah! Because of a recent lack of available volunteers, we run the risk of not being able to participate in this mitzvah, so please get the word out, and thank you - your gifts of time and effort are so very appreciated by this community.
