Volume 6, Issue 27

July 5, 2024

This week we start our "Why UMC?" sermon series. I can't wait to tell you why I am and have remained United Methodist - and how Strawbridge played an important role in my call to ministry. We will also look at the warning found in James 2 that faith without works is dead.

I pray everyone had a safe and fun Fourth of July! And I look forward to seeing you in worship this Sunday at 9:00 or 11:05 am!

Pastor Joy

TODAY IS THE LAST DAY! Our Student Ministry is in need of donations of paper goods, cleaning supplies, and snacks to help them serve others on their upcoming All Youth-Led Mission (AYM) trip. Your generosity will also allow them to use their current funds for construction supplies and scholarships.

For a complete list of needed items, visit their AYM Supply Donations sign-up page. Please drop-off donations at the Student Ministry office.

For further information, please contact Kristen Tropeano.

Let's help our friends at Elm Grove Elementary by ensuring no student goes without a new backpack to kick-off the upcoming school year! Backpacks can be dropped-off in the Narthex or at Pastor Emily's office.

We are collecting new, unused bars of soap throughout the month of July in support of our friends and partners at Mission Northeast to serve our local neighbors in need. Collection Boxes are set-up on the Missions Table in the Activity Hallway all month long.

We continue to implement security upgrades to provide everyone with a safe worship experience on Sunday mornings. The newest upgrades include:

  • Asking everyone to please enter through the Narthex or Office doors after 9:00 am on Sunday mornings to allow our on-duty officer to have a line of sight of people entering the building,
  • Reserving the use of the porte cochère/BBLC doors for those with mobility challenges. If you or someone you know has mobility challenges, please contact the church office at 281-360-4500 or email Anne Blakely-Barloco to receive an electronic key.

Thank you for helping provide a safe worship experience for everyone! If you have any questions or concerns regarding the security upgrades, please contact Rev. Joy Johnston.

The next Men of Strawbridge get-together is set for Wednesday, July 10 with a B.Y.O.Dinner beginning at 5:30 pm at the church. After dinner, they will be getting a little dirty (and a lot sweaty) cleaning out the planter boxes around the church grounds by pulling weeds and tilling the soil. Hard-working kiddos are welcome to join in, too! Please contact Adam Pieknik for additional information.

Our Senior XYZ Dinner group will meet for fellowship and supper at Skeeter's Mesquite Grill located at 4121 W. Lake Houston Parkway on Saturday, July 20.

Anyone interested in attending should please email Mike Mayfield no later than 3:00 pm on Friday, July 19 so he can ensure there‘s enough seating for everyone!

Join our "Be the Bridge" ministry on Wednesday, July 24 at 6:00 pm in The Great Hall for a B.Y.O.S. (bring your own snacks!) screening of "Hidden Figures".

Childcare will be made available upon request.

Please contact Pastor Tiffani for more information.

Recent HS grads to 30-year-olds are welcome to join us for an evening of appetizers, fellowship and tons of fun a Singo Bingo at The Brass Tap on Thursday, July 25 from 7:00 to 10:00 pm! Drinks and additional food not included. Please RSVP. Or contact Pastor Tiffani for additional information.

Are you a senior adult or someone who loves a senior adult? If so, you’re invited to learn more about medical powers of attorney, living wills, and other important topics worthy of consideration as part of our continuing Methodist Retirement Communities Lecture Series on August 17. Please contact Pastor Tiffani for further information.
