From the Rector
Dear St. Patrick's, Grace and peace. We have entered the month of our Centennial. I hope that you are planning to attend the events on October 29-30, 2011. The event on Saturday night, October 29th revolves around dinner, dancing, and an auction. Hosting such an event requires hours of preparation. The preparation this year is being coordinated by Marilyn Nowalk and Amy Graham. A top priority is compiling auction items that will help raise funds to support the ministries of St. Patrick's. The most popular items are those special items that are unique to you, particularly vacation home packages and community web donations. Additionally, gift cards are a big hit. Please get your ideas together and send in a form very soon. The Auction Committee also needs volunteers to help the day before and the day of the event for short shifts. If you are able, please let Marilyn and Amy know.
This is an especially busy October. With the added Centennial festivities, we are also in the midst of the Labor, Love, and Give Stewardship Campaign and the replacement of the furniture in the nave. Please keep the clergy and staff in your prayers always, but especially until October 30 at 5:00 p.m.
Faithfully,
Read or listen to this past Sunday's sermon titled, "Two Vineyards." |
Prayer List
We pray for Jay Sommerkamp, who is having heart surgery this week, and for those who care for him, especially his wife Kathy Sommerkamp. We also give thanks for the birth of Kathy & Jay's newest grandchild, Wyatt Edward Stuhl, born on Monday!

Centennial Auction News:
You should have received an email last week with the link to the invitation and RSVP information! If you haven't already RSVP'd, please click here to do so! We need you to volunteer! Please find your way to the Auction table in the Great Hall after the 10am service as we need to organize our volunteers for decorating, creating silent auction displays, requesting gift certificates from local vendors, and for day of auction volunteers to make it all happen! While you're at the Auction table, fill out a donation form for your great idea to give to the Auction and get a head start on buying some Halloween candy! Some great things have already been donated (fabulous gift certificates, vacation homes, and plans for some really great parties!) so please join your fellow parishioners, and add to the list. Cash in those reward points to help St. Patrick's raise the money we really need to make our budget this year! Questions? Contact Auction Co-Chairs Marilyn Nowalk and Amy Graham. Click here to print out a donation form, or pick one up in the Church Office! |

| Music Update
Thank you to our Jubilate Deo choir for sharing that great anthem on Sunday! And thank you to Benj Duke and Lilly Keller for playing the Timpani! Our 3rd - 6th graders are going strong. Now we're on to preparing music for the Centennial and the mini-musical in November. Want to join in? We have lots of rehearsal options so just let me know.
Many thanks to our Cantoris adults, too, who sang a lovely Communion anthem. And they are busy preparing lots of special music for our Centennial service. We would love to have a few more voices...! Is it your time?
Coming up --
Nova Lux (9th - 12th graders) joins the Cantoris choir on Oct. 16. (9:00am rehearsal)
7th/8th Grade St. Patrick's Peal (Handbells) plays on Oct. 23.
Won't you help us make music in this wonderful place?
~Adele Lynch, Director of Music

Invite Family Caregivers You Know to a Mini-Retreat at St. Patrick's this Sunday
Sunday, October 9, 2011
1-5 pm
Did you know 1 in 5 adults cares for an adult child, an aging parent, or a chronically ill spouse? If a friend or co-worker of yours is a family caregiver, be sure to tell them about the Mini-Retreat for Caregivers that St. Patrick's is hosting (co-sponsored by Washington National Cathedral and underwritten by a grant from the Victoria & Max Dreyfus Foundation).
The afternoon is intended to be a restorative day for those who spend time and energy caring for others. Simple forms of prayer and meditation will be taught. A massage therapist will be on-hand to give free chair massages. Additionally, practical resources for caregivers will be shared.
Participants need not be members of St. Patrick's or National Cathedral. Those wanting to reserve a space should email The Rev. Andrea Martin, andrea@stpatrickschurcdc.org
