For Parents of Rising 6th-9th Graders
From the Rector

Dear St. Patrick's,

Yaa Addison with The Rt. Rev. John Bryson ChaneGrace and peace! For the past six weeks, Yaa Addison has been involved in a summer internship through the Lilly Summer Discernment Institute here at St. Patrick's. Yaa is a parishioner, a graduate of our Day School, and a rising Junior at Gettysburg College. She is committed to applying her many gifts to the betterment of the community, and the summer internship is a way to explore how service might be a part of her future vocation, possibly even in the ordained ministry.

The program begins and ends with seminars at The University of the South in Sewanee, TN. While on site at St. Patrick's, Yaa has been working day-to-day with Horizons Greater Washington as an assistant teacher. Horizons Greater Washington is a program that develops partnerships between public and private school communities "to provide academic, cultural, and recreational programs designed to empower economically disadvantaged students to realize their full potential." This is the second year that St. Patrick's has collaborated with Horizons to partner with Bancroft Elementary School. In addition to her service at St. Patrick's, Yaa has also been an intern at St. Phillip's Food Pantry in Anacostia (another important partner of St. Patrick's).

I want to thank Yaa. This week, she is in Tennessee at the closing seminar of the program. Please keep her in your prayers.

Faithfully,

Kurt's Signature

Music Update

JoLynne Hough & Louis OrphanosWe welcome our resident concert pianist, Louis Orphanos, as our "guest instrumentalist" this week. (Actually, he and JoLynne Hough are taking the whole service Sunday morning while the Lynches are on vacation!) You might want to plan now to be here early so you don't miss any of the Prelude. Louis has serenaded us with many wonderful concerts as well as Sunday morning music offerings over the years and we are so fortunate to have him and the entire musical Hough-Orphanos family in our midst. (Pearl and Daisy will be at it soon, too, I'm sure!) Many thanks to JoLynne for leading our worship music. What a team!

Campaign to Replace Nave Chairs Continues

We have raised enough money via Nave chair dedications to replace half of our aging black Nave chairs, and placed an order for those 120 chairs to arrive in October. But we still have a ways to go, so please click here for a form to dedicate a Nave chair (or more!).

Many thanks to those who have already dedicated chairs!
