Last Call for Pentecost Readers

On Sunday, May 19, we observe the Feast of Pentecost, the day when the early Christians received the gift of the Holy Spirit and were able to understand various "tongues."

As is our custom here at St. Dunstan's, we will mark Pentecost by hearing a passage from Scripture (Acts 2:1-11) in several languages. If you are able to read in a language other than English, please consider offering a couple of verses of the Acts passage in that "tongue." Fluency is absolutely not a requirement! The more folks who volunteer, the less any one person will need to read. In the past I have been able to find translations in most languages, so please let me know your preference. It is a lot of fun!

To volunteer, please email me no later than TOMORROW (Wednesday, May 15), so that I can get you your verse(s) as soon as possible. Thank you! ~ Patty+

Please worship with St. Dunstan's on the Feast of Pentecost this Sunday, May 19! We will celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit by hearing the Acts of the Apostles lesson in multiple languages, and we will be treated to a special Song of Praise by the Children's Choir.

Come join the festivities!

Also...Remember to wear RED  - or ORANGE - this week, if possible. The idea is to suggest fire!

Reception Honoring

the Rev. Katie Spero

Parish Hall

Please stay after worship on Sunday to celebrate with

the Rev. Katie Spero, who graduated from seminary last week and two days later was ordained as a Transitional Deacon...What a whirlwind!

Katie has been called to serve as Lower School Chaplain at St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Potomac, where she will share her abundant gifts with children in Preschool through Grade 5 and their families and teachers. Congratulations to Head of School - and St. Dunstan's parishioner - Robert Kosasky (above) on this very wise decision!

Service and Justice Forum:

So Others Might Eat (SOME)

Parish Hall

Please join us this Sunday, when we will hear from Daryl Wright, SOME's Senior Vice President of Community Outreach. Daryl's passion for helping those in underserved and marginalized communities spans more than three decades. He brings that passion to community-driven organizations where he can educate and bring to the attention of community leaders the work of SOME. Not just the work, but how they can support our brothers and sisters and help in transforming lives.

For more than 50 years, SOME has been a trusted agent for change in the D.C. region as a leader in the effort to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness in our nation's capital.

This is the fourth in our series of six forums

on service opportunities and justice issues.

Recent Scenes from St. Dunstan's

Saturday was a joyful day as St. Dunstan's Senior Seminarian Intern Katie Spero was ordained to the Transitional Diaconate.

Celebrating with Katie:

Bishop Paula Clark of the Diocese of Chicago, and her parents, Sally and Peter Spero

On Sunday Deacon Mary Sebold presented Katie with a redbud tree as part of the "Saplings for Sacraments" initiative. Thank you, Deacon Mary, for your visionary leadership on this important program!

St. Dunstan's families organized a touching farewell for departing Children's Minister Amy Cardin, whose last Sunday with us will be Pentecost (May 19).

Miss Amy was thrilled to receive an original Sue Carroll liturgical art piece as a thank-you gift!

"No Mow May"

You may have noticed the grass growing higher and higher around St. Dunstan's campus recently... This is on purpose!

The Green Team and the Building and Grounds Committee have elected to participate in "No Mow May," an international movement to do away with fossil fuel–dependent lawns and encourage yards that support native plants and pollinators, including bees and butterflies.

Please help spread the word in the neighborhood!
