Labor Day Bake Sale

The Labor Day Bake Sale is coming up soon.

It is on Labor Day, September 2, and coincides with the Upper Arlington Labor Day Arts Festival.

The Bake Sale is a fundraiser for various local non-profits addressing hunger and food insecurity. In the past proceeds have gone to organizations like NNEMAP and the Mid Ohio Food Collective.

We need people to make treats to sell. We also need help with the sale itself and set up and clean up.

There is a Sign-Up Genius and poster in the parish hall, for contributions and helpers. Mark your calendars and start looking at your recipes for cookies, cupcakes and other goodies.

Saint Mark's at the Ohio Village Muffins

The Ohio Village Muffins are the baseball team of the Ohio History Connection.

The Ohio Village Muffins are a group of enthusiastic lovers of the game who carry on the tradition of the sport as it was played in mid-nineteenth-century America. They do everything as the baseball players of 1860 did it: play by their rules, dress in their uniforms, and exemplify their gentlemanly behavior.

Over Labor Day Weekend, the Muffins host the Ohio Cup Vintage Baseball Festival at the Ohio History Connection.

Over 25 teams from all over the country are gathering to play. There are usually 4 games going on at the same time.

The Muffins, including our own David Boop, are playing games at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 31.

Saint Mark’s is going to attend the 11 a.m. game. There will be a lot of food trucks if you’d like to grab lunch after the game. You can also stay for the 1 p.m. game or watch some of the other games if you’d like.

Bring a chair and meet at the fields outside of the Ohio History Connection at 11 a.m. and join in the fun.

Come Sing With Us

Canterbury Choir Season Begins Soon

Do you know a child who likes to sing? A new season for the Canterbury Choir begins in September, and the choir is looking for new members! Open to boys and girls ages 7 to 14, the Canterbury Choir rehearses weekly on Wednesday afternoons and sings for the 10:30 a.m. service on the first Sunday of every month, from September to May.

The season begins with Canterbury Choir Camp (held at Saint Mark’s) the weekend of September 6–8. Participation in the choir offers an excellent opportunity for children to learn not only about the basics of singing and music theory but also about the Episcopal faith and its liturgy. The choir is open to all members of the community, regardless of religious affiliation, and there is no cost to participate. No musical background is required.

For more information, visit http://canterburychoir.saintmarkscolumbus.org or contact Matthew Bester (directorofmusic@saintmarkscolumbus.org or 614-486-9452, ext. 309).

Saint Mark’s Choir Seeks New Members

The Saint Mark’s Choir is looking for new members for the upcoming season, which begins in early September. The choir is open to adults and high school–age singers who are able to make a regular commitment on Thursday nights and Sunday mornings. Singers of all voice parts are welcome. Some previous experience with choral singing and sight reading is recommended.

If you or someone you know may be interested, please contact Matthew Bester (directorofmusic@saintmarkscolumbus.org; 614-486-9452, ext. 309) to arrange a meeting. Visit http://music.saintmarkscolumbus.org for more information.

Knitting

Saint Mark’s has two knitting groups.

The daytime knitting group meets the first and third Thursdays of the month from 1 to 3 p.m.

The evening knitting group meets the second Monday of the month from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Both groups meet in the Canterbury Center.

In September the daytime group will meet September 5 & 19. The evening group will meet September 9.

You can bring your knitting or any other project you are working on. If you want to learn how to knit or get help with your knitting we can do that too.

Fall Kick-Off Weekend

The weekend begins with Canterbury Choir Camp, which starts on Friday afternoon. The Canterbury Choir will have rehearsals and team building Friday afternoon and evening (and pizza and a movie on Friday night) and on Saturday morning and afternoon. If you have a child between the ages of 7 and 14 who would like to join the choir, contact Dr. Bester (directorofmusic@saintmarkscolumbus.org) for more information.

On Saturday morning we will have a parish work morning. There are a number of small projects that need to be done around the building to get ready for the fall. We will gather at 9 a.m. (donuts and coffee provided) and start working on the list. We will stop for lunch around noon and finish up by 1 p.m. There are lots of different jobs for people of all ages and abilities.

Sunday morning sees the return of both choirs at the 10:30 a.m. service and Adult and Children’s formation programs.

Adult formation will meet at 9:30 in the parish hall and will begin looking at Christianity After Constantine.

Children’s Formation begins at 10:30 in the children’s formation area. Children from age 4 through 1st grade participate in the Godly Play program. Children from grade 2 through 5 participate in the Children’s Chapel program. All children return to the service around the time of the peace.

You can register your children for Children's Formation here.
