For the summer months through Labor Day, the church offices will be open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The church will be closed on Fridays.

PW Thank You from the Heart

Presbyterian Women wish to extend our gratitude and sincere thanks to those who supported our recent Domestic Violence Center of Chester County Gift-Card Campaign. We are happy to report that through your generosity, we are able to send $630 to DVCCC. These cards will be used to replenish supplies at their facility and to help residents as they transition back into the community. DVCCC is extremely grateful for your support of their mission to help families in desperate need.

Summer Lectio Divina - This Sunday

Lectio Divina is an ancient, prayerful method of reading Scripture and all are invited to give it a try this summer. Our next session will be Sunday, July 14 starting at 8:30 am in Room 214. Come early for this time of prayer then stay for coffee and worship. Whether you have prayed using this method before or it is new to you, our prayer is that opening yourself to the presence of God through Scripture, silence, and community will enrich your walk with the Lord. All are welcome. Talk to Sara Pantazes with any questions.

July Grand Camp

First Pres's next Grand Camp will be Wednesday, July 17 from 10 am - noon. Grand Camp programs are designed for kids and their grandparents or grand-friends to have fun together. This month's camp is "Memory" themed, with several games and crafts to create and share memories! We need a minimum of 5 families to attend or this program will be moved to the August date (8/12). Please RSVP by contacting Sara Pantazes or click the Sign-up button below.

Parents Pool Party Update

Due to low sign-ups, the Parents Pool Party scheduled for this Friday evening has been postponed. We hope all First Pres families are enjoying the summer and look forward to more opportunities for parents to connect in the fall.

October Dinner Groups at First Pres

There may be no better way to get to know someone then over a shared meal. First Pres, let’s get to know each other! We are looking for hosts to open their homes for our October Dinner Group Gatherings. You’ll pick the date and time, and provide the main dish and your home, then FPC members can sign up to attend and bring a dish to share. Your dinner group can be a simple supper, a fancy spread, just appetizers, desserts, some pizzas, it is up to you! And you also choose how many people you’d like to host. The hope is to have lots of us mix and mingle with one another in many homes throughout the month of October. If interested in hosting, please contact Mary Hambleton (emham@verizon.net) or sign up using the button below. Let’s break bread together in October!

Session Updates

Leadership Structure

Dear First Pres, our Session has been diligently working through strategic priorities, which includes following up on the important and careful work of the Transition Team and the Structure Evaluation Committee, which took place during the interim period. After conversations with our Trustees and our Session, and at the prior recommendation of the Structure Evaluation Committee, the Session voted unanimously to merge the Trustees into the Session. This merger will roll the Trustees into the Building and Grounds committee of the Session and we will spend this summer evaluating the timeline of this merger. As soon as the timeline is approved by Session we will be sure to communicate to the congregation. This merger does two very important things: first, since the Session is the decision-making body of our church, this will give the Trustees a vote on the business of the church, which they did not have prior. Second, this merger will work to alleviate any communication challenges between the Trustees who faithfully help manage our building, and the Session who has the ultimate decision. The Trustees have faithfully served our congregation in so many ways, and they will continue to do so as the Building and Grounds committee, and now, with an important voice in the decision-making of our church. I’m so thankful for the careful work of the Structure Evaluation Committee, our Trustees, and our Elders for their ever-faithful service to First Pres. I know this is a significant change for First Pres, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

Getsemani Trip

Our Session has made the decision to support a trip to visit our covenant church, La Iglesia Evangélica Presbiteriana Getsemani, in Villa Nueva, Guatemala this coming November. We are so thankful for our 20-year partnership and the time we had this past fall with our Guatemalan brothers and sisters, and we value every chance we are able to gather together. The decision to travel to Villa Nueva rose to the level of the Session due to the current travel restrictions imposed by the U.S. Government, and subsequently our need to make careful consideration regarding whether or not to travel, and if to travel, what safety measures will be put in place. Safety measures including travel insurance, insurance for travelling to heightened areas of risk, traveling with the organization CEDEPCA (the arm of the PCUSA Mission Agency in Guatemala), staying in hotels, and ensuring that travel participants leave Villa Nueva prior to dark each day, are just some of the safety measures put in place. As the details for this trip continue to come together, they will be communicated to the congregation, and all people interested in going on the trip. If you have questions about the trip or our decision making process please feel free to reach out to myself or Caroline.

Electronic Security

At the last Session Meeting, the Insurance, Safety and Security Committee of Trustees presented a review of a Safety & Security initiative to replace the church video surveillance system. The existing system is old and has reached the end of its functionality. The scope of work proposed also includes the addition of a Video intercom system for reception and staff as well as a panic button system. The committee moved forward with Vector Security (a current church vendor) to manage the project, then finalized scope and cost. A very generous anonymous donation has been made to fund a large portion of the work, with the balance of the funding coming out of appropriate reserve accounts. Approval was given to move ahead with this work.

Thursday First Pres Prayers

This Month’s Prayer:

God we pray your blessing upon the caregiving ministries of your church. Hold up deacons, Stephen Ministers, Prayer Band members, the Nurses Ministry Team, and all who tend to the sick. We pray also for those who care for one another in relationships of friendship and mutual support: for PW Circles and Men’s ministry groups, for parent fellowship and youth group. Continue to strengthen the bonds that these people share in your name and help them to be sources of strength and joy. In your Son’s name we pray, Amen.

Each week we pray for our congregation at 12:00 pm on Thursdays.

Set an alarm or schedule it in your calendar to join us! You don’t need to only pray for the topic of the week, but you can continue to pray for previous topics as well or anything that God lays on your heart.

Prayer Requests

If you would like to add a prayer (in joy or in time of need) to our Prayer Band, complete the website form, send an email, or call the church at the number below.
