USDA Launches Summer Nutrition (SUN) Programs


The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently announced the launch of SUN Programs: USDA’s Summer Nutrition Programs for Kids. Through these Summer Nutrition (SUN) programs, families will now have more choices and convenient ways to get summer nutrition support. Along with this launch, USDA has published highlights of the Summer EBT implementation, including how each participating state, territory, and Indian Tribal Organization (ITO) plans to carry out the program.

ACF Call for Information: Home Visiting Programs


A new article from the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) offers detailed information about the Supporting Family Economic Well-Being through Home Visiting (HomeEc) project. Funded by the ACF’s Office of Planning, Research, and Evaluation (OPRE), this project seeks to enhance family economic well-being through home visiting programs. The article covers selected programs’ participation in a formative evaluation, potential practices to improve economic well-being, and insights into strengthening partnerships and training staff.

OPRE Shares Participant Perspectives in E&T


A new OPRE research brief describes the experiences of individuals living with low incomes who participated in programs that integrate SNAP Employment & Training (E&T) and financial capability services. By incorporating these insights into service delivery, practitioners can improve program structures, strengthen engagement, and enhance supports to foster financial well-being.

SNAP Program Purpose and Work Requirement Provisions


The USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) is extending the public comment period on the proposed rule "Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program: Program Purpose and Work Requirement Provisions of the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023." This action extends the public comment period from May 30 to June 14.

USDA Disaster SNAP Guidance


USDA has released a revised guidance handbook for the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP). The handbook reviews policy and lessons learned, while also providing a tool kit to help Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) offices prepare and organize a D-SNAP.

Using CCDF to Promote Mental Health and Well-being


This information memorandum (IM) provides guidance to Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) lead agencies regarding how CCDF funds can be used to improve the mental health and well-being of children, families, and the early care and education workforce.

ACF Announces Release of Multiple New Early Childhood Development Policy Guidelines


Earlier this month, ACF announced new policy guidance for states, Tribes, territories, and local early childhood programs to promote the mental health and wellness of children, families, and the early care and education workforce. The four new Information Memoranda recommend strategies to advance mental health promotion in CCDF, Head Start, Preschool Development Grant Birth through Five, and Tribal Home Visiting programs. Last month, USDA and Nutri-Link co-hosted an informational session for states and ITOs on how the new SUN Bucks (Summer EBT) application works. They also describe how the application can supplement state and ITO efforts to certify eligible children for Summer EBT benefits.
