Governor Newsom Announces New $2.7 Billion
COVID-19 Emergency Response Package 
On Saturday, Governor Gavin Newsom announced his request that the Legislature passed a $2.7 billion COVID-19 response package, with $1.4 billion in emergency appropriations for the FY 2021-2022 budget (ending June 30, 2022) and $1.3 billion for the FY 2022-2023 budget (beginning July 1, 2022). The entire package consists of:

  • $1.2 billion for additional testing, including antigen test distribution and expanding existing testing sites
  • $614 million for additional staffing for health care systems and vaccination sites
  • $583 million for vaccination, including outreach, transportation, at-home vaccination, and an anti-misinformation campaign
  • $200 million for expanded staffing and IT at the California Department of Public Health, Office of Emergency Services, and Emergency Medical Services Authority
  • $110 million for contact tracing, migrant vaccination and testing, and migrant isolation and quarantine
CalChamber Responds to Governor's Proposed Budget

The proposed budget tops out at more than a quarter-trillion dollars, larger than the entire economies of Vietnam, the Czech Republic or Portugal. The Governor projects a budget surplus topping $45 billion next year, on top of a $75 billion surplus in the current year.
CalChamber Tags First 2022 Job Killer Bills
The California Chamber of Commerce has tagged AB 1400 (Kalra, Lee and Santiago) and ACA 11 (Kalra and Lee) as its first Job Killer bills of 2022. The bills would create and finance a new single payer health care system called CalCare.
Angel Stadium Transforms Into Dirt Track
For Supercross, Monster Jam
It took crews 30 pieces of heavy equipment, including bulldozers, skid steers and excavators to move the dirt in and shape the 2,500 foot track, organizers said. The rest of the year the dirt is kept nearby and used for employee parking.
