Frank and his wife Silvia Garcia opened the first La Casa Garcia restaurant in the Leatrice neighborhood next to Ponderosa Park in the city of Anaheim. Frank recognized the opportunity to move to its present location at 531 W. Chapman Avenue. La Casa Garcia has successfully been open for over four decades and is a pillar in the city of Anaheim. Beyond being a successful restaurateur, Mr. Garcia has also become a well-known philanthropist in Orange County as the founder of the We Give Thanks Foundation. This past weekend the We Give Thanks Foundation and La Casa Garcia hosted a fundraiser that benefitted Maui. All proceeds from the meals sold were donated to help feed the Maui fire victims.

SoCalGas Elimination of Cash Payments in the Field
Due to the economic hardship caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in March of 2020, California utilities including SoCalGas implemented a moratorium on disconnecting residential customers with unpaid bills. SoCalGas resumed collections activity for non-residential customers early this year, and resumed collections activity for residential customers on August 4, 2023.

Collections are attempted by letter, email, phone, and in-person at customer’s homes. To enhance the safety of SoCalGas employees who visit customers’ homes for collection purposes, as of August 23, 2023, SoCalGas field employees will no longer accept cash, checks, or money orders for the payment of bills.

However, SoCalGas field employees can assist customers in paying their bill through a variety of options:

  1. My Account - online payment portal
  2. Customer Contact Center - customers can set up payment arrangements
  3. BillMatrix – facilitates customer credit card and debit card payments

As always, customers can also pay in person at SoCalGas payment offices or authorized payment locations, or pay by phone, email, direct debit, debit/credit card, or home banking.

Additionally, SoCalGas continues to provide assistance options to avoid disconnections, including extended payment plans and debt forgiveness through the Arrearage Management Plan.

Working with customers to make bill payment easy is part of how SoCalGas innovates better than any other energy infrastructure company in North America.

Big City Chambers Coalition Forms
The Big City Chambers Coalition formed earlier this month, consisting of the California Chamber of Commerce, and 13 local chambers: Anaheim, Bakersfield, Fresno, Irvine, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Oakland, Riverside, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, and Stockton.

“With how vast and complicated California is, it is important for CalChamber and the Big City Chambers to work together to advocate for the pro-business policies to grow the economies of our local regions and the California economy,” said Laura Cunningham, President and CEO of the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce. “The Anaheim Chamber and this coalition will help strengthen the business community’s advocacy for a better California through good public policy in tourism, hospitality, manufacturing, housing, homelessness, and infrastructure. The Anaheim Chamber is excited to work with our fellow Big City Chambers and the CalChamber to help build a more successful California.”
Legislation Spotlight: ACA 13 Would Make It Harder to Limit Taxes
The Anaheim Chamber of Commerce has taken an "Oppose" position on ACA 13 by Assemblyman Christopher Ward (D-San Diego) and coauthored by Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas (D-Salinas). ACA 13 seeks to amend the California Constitution to require higher voter approval requirements for voter-proposed ballot initiatives to increase protections against new taxes, yet it does not impose that higher requirement for tax increases proposed by the State Legislature or local governments. ACA 13 was introduced last week and is being heard in the Assembly Elections Committee this afternoon.
