Cenla Songwriters Circle

Fighting Hand Brewing Co.

1600 Military Hwy., Pineville, LA

Wednesday November 1, 2023

Time: 6:00 PM

The Cenla Songwriters Circle is a welcoming, supportive environment for songwriters at all levels, from aspiring to professional. All genres are welcome. No pressure, no judgment, no egos.

What to expect: The songwriters gathered for the evening will be playing their original compositions, each taking a turn, one song at a time, and continuing around the Circle until our time runs out. Rather than a performance, this is an opportunity for songwriters to share their songs, tell the stories behind the songs, discuss songwriting techniques, network with other songwriters, and learn about upcoming opportunities at songwriter festivals and other songwriter events. No amps are provided. You may bring one if you’d like, but the volume will be kept to the level of the other instruments in the Circle. If you would like to bring a keyboard, that’s fine also.

Please note that the CenLa Songwriters Circle is for original music only, no covers allowed.

Little Satchmo

Hearn Stage at Kress Theatre

1102 3rd St., Alexandria, LA

Monday November 6, 2023

Time: 7:00 PM

The Arts Council presents the 3rd film in the Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers-Little Satchmo

Screening will be Monday, November 6th at 7:00 PM in the Kress Theatre on the Hearn Stage.

To the world, Louis Armstrong is iconic — a symbol of musical genius, unparalleled success, and unassailable character. To Sharon, he was simply Dad. Armstrong’s wholesome, non-threatening image preserved his singular career as a black performer with unfettered access to a white man's world. Yet he was more than a caricature. In private, he held tightly to the things he loved. Perhaps closest to his heart was a child whom he hid from the world: a daughter sworn to a life of secrecy until now.

Director, John Alexander , will join us for the screening and for some discussion afterward.

Tickets are $10 for Adults and free for all students. Tickets at the door.
