Keep Fats, Oils & Grease (FOG) out of your drains on Memorial Day weeked when cleaning up after a holiday party. Improperly disposed of #FOG can harm the environment by creating overflows in the sewer lines and clogging homeowner pipes that may cause property damage.
Scape uneaten food, fat, and solid fat and grease into a container and then into your green cart before washing dishes or placing them in your dishwasher. Nearly all food scraps, solid fats, and grease (except liquids and raw meat) can go into the green cart for curbside pickup (along with yard waste materials).
These include:
- Cooked meat, fish, bones, and shells
- Cheese and other solid dairy products
- Bread, pasta, pastry, and other grains
- Coffee grounds (no filters)
All food scraps must be unpackaged. No metal, wire, glass, plastic, paper or cardboard should be included because of health and safety risks. Only food scraps and solid fat may go into the green bin.
Clogs in pipes are costly to clear, especially during holiday weekends, so follow these steps to dispose of #FOG and enjoy your party!
