This Earth Day, we are looking back with gratitude and pride as we reflect on the accomplishments of the last 13 years. We are also looking forward with enthusiasm to greeting our future workshop participants and connecting with our graduates to help them live resilient, hopeful lives in the face of climate-related challenges in our communities.
Our beloved founder, Tamra Peters, handed over the mantle of Executive Director to Kathren Murrell Stevenson on April 1st. In her remarkable tenure, Tamra led our organization and its graduates to reduce over 13.6 million pounds of pollutants that would otherwise contribute to climate change. Our program graduates continue to take new actions and inspire others to take action as well.
On Tuesday, April 16th, Tamra was honored by the Marin County Board of Supervisors for her exemplary service to protect the environment. With her leadership, the organization has grown to a fully-staffed team of four, a Board of Directors, an active group of ambassadors and volunteers. The program has evolved from paper-and-pencil action plans that were hand-tallied to a sophisticated online system for tracking and reporting climate actions. Resilient Neighborhoods is now recognized as a leader in our community for our expertise in helping Marin residents reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. We’ve created a supportive community that cares deeply about nature and our living planet.
Tamra said: “looking back, it’s been a lot of work, but worth it. I’m always touched at the last workshop class when our climate action team graduates express how great they feel about what they have accomplished. Many say: You changed my life.”
