ABEA Research Study

Adult Basic Education Association (ABEA) is the adult learning network in Hamilton. We're working with the McMaster Research Shop to explore common challenges and barriers faced by apprentices. This research will help us identify ways to support apprentices in Ontario through adult education programming.

Interviews will be in July 2023 for around 30 minutes using Zoom.

The 1st 30 participants will get a $25 virtual gift card.

Recruitment for Equity, Accessibility and Diversity

Start a New Career in Recruitment & Job Development! READY is a 14-week training program designed to assist newcomers with backgrounds in HR, sales, business development, hospitality, or marketing in pursuing their careers as recruiters, talent acquisitions, and job developers.


City School Summer Programming


We welcome applications from all those interested in City School, but please note that priority will be given to those who meet the following:

  • 19 years of age or older
  • Have no or limited post-secondary education (i.e., have not attended college or university, or participated in an apprenticeship); and/or currently unemployed and/or in receipt of social assistance (e.g., Ontario Works, Ontario Disability Support Program)
  • Live within Ontario (for virtual and online courses)


Students can earn up to three (3) free post-secondary credits through City School:

  • Two (2) post-secondary credits
  • One (1) College 101 (this includes College 101-Indigenous, Bundled Arrows and Introduction to Postsecondary Experiences)

You will be notified of your registration status approximately three (3) weeks before the course begins.

Employment Pathway Courses Eligibility

These programs include personalized employment supports and services, including opportunities for work placements, and, as such, have additional eligibility requirements.

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • An interest in a career in the field of study upon completion
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Unemployed or working less than 20 hours per week
  • Not enrolled in full-time education 
  • 18 years of age or older 

Technology Requirements 

Students must have the following to participate in City School online and virtual courses:

  • broadband internet connection
  • desktop or laptop computer (tablet is acceptable)
  • basic computer skills (web browsing, email, and document creation)

Digital Main Street - Digital Transformation Grant

$2,500 Digital Transformation Grant & Complimentary Services Available For Small Businesses! 

The Canadian Chamber of Commerce has launched its Inclusive Growth Awards to recognize chambers of commerce, boards of trade and their members across Canada that do exceptional work to remove barriers and create a more diverse, equitable and inclusive economy. In addition, these awards are to recognize Indigenous and other underrepresented entrepreneurs who have demonstrated excellence in innovation and social impact. 


So go ahead and nominate a business or an organization that deserves recognition. Nominations close July 28. 


WPH Teams up with YWCA for the 'Construction Craft Worker Pre-Apprenticeship'

Program Overview

A Construction Craft Worker Pre-Apprentice works on a wide variety of structures, such as residential, industrial, commercial, and institutional sites as well as hydroelectric dams, roadways, bridges, tunnels, mining and railways. They may also work on utility, landscape and pipeline projects.

YWCA Hamilton is pleased to offer Pre-Apprenticeship programs for persons with disabilities and mental health barriers at no-cost, providing participants with technical training and job coaching to start their career in the skilled trades.
