State of the Granite State

"If you were born here, you're lucky, and if you've moved here, you're smart," said NH Gov. Sununu in a State of the State talk at the Concord Chamber of Commerce last month. The legislature is "really divided, which isn't a bad thing. It's an amazing opportunity," he said. "We always get stuff done."

Tribute to Howard Frank Moser

The Faulknerian novelist "evoked hardscrabble VT," said The New York Times in its obituary of Moser, 74. Dartmouth's Peter Orner and novelist Tom Barbash eulogized Moser in a Norwich Bookstore talk. "He was an amazing storyteller," said Barbash. "You can't believe the things that are happening [in his stories]."

Saving rural healthcare

"You can't have rural America without rural hospitals," said VT Sen. Welch at a healthcare roundtable with two hospital CEOs. Emergency services, pharmacies, and home health care are struggling due to Covid and high costs. "Systems we count on are literally houses on fire. All that backs up on the hospitals," said Shawn Tester, head of a St. Johnsbury hospital.
