Connecting hearts, minds, and hands to meet needs in our community
Jennifer Foley
UNITE INDY’s Partner of the Month is Merchandise Warehouse where core values propel them to employ and assist those who are reentering society after incarceration. Merchandise Warehouse works with UNITE INDY to supply volunteers across our city through our website and pays these employees for the time they spend volunteering. Jen Foley, left serves the company as Director of Wellness, a title consistent with company goals of showing caring respect for all those who are employed there. They assist those reentering society with many issues including transportation to and from work, as well as their personal adjustment to a second chance. This company is a foothold for many in transition and committed to honoring God in all they do. Check our their website!
In areas of increasing poverty, there is a 600% increase in the probability of being murdered or shot. UNITE INDY is working closely with Anthony Beverly at Stop the Violence Indianapolis to get needed help to vulnerable kids. Jim Cotterill and Beverly are together planning before one of the big meetings coming up to forge strong alliances with those who can make a difference in this important fight. This is what UNITE INDY does every day--coordinates with others to move forward on the issues that tear down our inner city and the people who live there. See the needs here!
God is never late, never early. He is right on time. If you have ever waited for something important to come to fruition, you too might have hoped that His 'right on time', might somehow coalesce with your idea of what is 'right on time'. So here's a picture of what 241 W. 38th Street, our new offices, will look like when finished. To date, we have faced unimagined obstacles, we have waited interminably for permits, and today, we just need to imagine the results and pray they will materialize soon! We've had all kinds of feedback from those enjoying the progress pictures, so please hold this vision in your mind's eye and maybe that will help move things along. Can't wait to make this our new home!
UNITE INDY to receive a Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Award presented by Indiana Minority Business Magazine i n January. The award recognizes those who fight racial disparities, prejudices, and promote diversity and will be presented in January at the 2019 Champions of Diversity Awards Dinner. We are terrifically honored.
But we know there are so many who work tirelessly touching lives everyday who—like us—do all they can to build bridges of relationships between all our many different communities. We work with them, share stories of sorrow and victory, puzzle over problems, and work to make things better. We move the needle a little in the right direction with every step, carrying the same banner of love, care, grace and peace. We at UNITE INDY are so honored to have been selected for this award and in our hearts will share it with all of those with whom we work. Read Nancy's Blog.
Don't be left out--We need you! S tand with us! Anyone can tell you: Not much gets done without money. For UNITE INDY to get a city-wide volunteer/need website going it takes great people with computer skills who work individually with churches, businesses, charities and others, so that each has its own portal to enter the world of need in our city.
We need a place to meet--working on that! We need to publish and insert the powerful testimonies and round table discussions that give suburban Indianapolis a much more personal understanding of the issues faced by our poor and hopeless. These are just a few of our needs, but any donation is so appreciated! And thanks to those who have helped so far! UNITE INDY is a 501(c)(3) public charity. So donations can be tax deductible.
