Global Spotlight Newsletter

April 2022

The global spotlight has been shining brightly recently in central America, the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia, thanks to the work of Optimists in those areas.

The Optimist Club of Kathmandu sponsored the Adolescent Girls Health and Wellness Workshop at a local school, and a second one is planned.

The Optimist Club of Kathmandu sponsored the Adolescent Girls Health and Wellness Workshop at a local school, and a second one is planned. The event was made possible through a Club grant from the Optimist International Foundation.

The workshop covers various topics aimed at educating the girls in areas that will lead to a positive experience during their teen years and set the stage when they become adults.

Education was also on members' minds from the Progressive Optimist Club in Montego Bay, Jamaica. They collected books and science-related items to donate to the Ignatius Byer Primary School. The project is expected to benefit all 82 students who attend the school. The Optimist Club of Malta has expanded the after-school program to a second community.

The Ikber Maghna (Grow with Us) project allows elementary-aged students to get help with their homework a couple of times a month.

The project started in the city of Vittoriosa an has expanded to the nearby community of Hamrun.

The Optimist Club in Belize is helping young people read just after the COVID-19 pandemic presentation.

"We conducted a three-day workshop to help students adjust to face-to-face learning after months of distance learning because of the pandemic," said Club President Stephen Whyte.

"The training consisted of various healthy living activities, Covid19 presentation, study skills and time management by chief guest speakers."

The end of Covid meeting restrictions has allowed Clubs to finally start meeting in person.

The Kinshasa Pool Optimist Club in the Democratic Republic of the Congo held its first "congress" since organized.

A new leadership team was elected and plans for upcoming projects are in the works.

There is also a new Junior Optimist Club that has started its Optimist journey with the help of the Optimist Club of Bagmati in Nepal.

This new Junior Optimist Club could be the first of several in the country. Congratulations to all these Optimists involved in spreading Optimism around the globe.
