Summer Days: Building Rhythm and Routine for Kids with ADHD
School’s out, and it’s summer! The kids are excited, teachers are relieved, and parents are starting to feel a familiar knot in their stomachs about the change of routine for their kids in summer – especially parents dealing with ADHD kids.
It can seem overwhelming and often daunting. But know you are not alone! Let’s look at how you can pay attention to your kids’ natural rhythm and routine to relieve some stress.

Mental Health Support and Resources
In recognition of National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, CanLearn’s counselling team can help navigate challenges and support mental well-being. We work with individuals (aged 6 through adult) and families to address anxiety, mood, behaviour challenges, social stress, relationship issues and emotional dysregulation.

Learning Disabilities Resources
Learning Disabilities – or LDs for short – can affect how a person takes in, stores, or uses information. LDs come in many forms and affect people with varying levels of severity.
The most recent research shows that between 5 and 10 percent of Canadians have learning disabilities. LDs are a life-long condition. They do not go away, but we know that people who have LDs can successfully navigate school and life by using their areas of strength to compensate and by using accommodations such as technology.

Friends and Teen Talk - FREE Summer Camps
Some children and teens have trouble making friends and handling their emotions. We can help!
CanLearn's FREE summer camps combine social-emotional learning and recreational activities to help kids and teens build healthy relationships, mental wellness, conversation skills, effective communication, friendships, coping strategies and more.
Convenient locations including the CanLearn Society and The Salvation Army. The camps can also be offered in a one-to-one format for kids who need a little extra support to learn social-emotional skills.

Summer and Psych-Ed Assessments
Is your child struggling with reading, writing or math? Academic difficulties can happen for many reasons and can lead to a child feeling anxious, frustrated, or different from their classmates.
The good news is that some strategies and supports can be put in place no matter your child’s age. First, it’s important to understand what their strengths are and where they may need more support. That’s where a psychoeducational (or “psych-ed”) assessment can help to diagnose a learning disability or Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
