Happy Sunday, Pride!

I hope each of you had a wonderful weekend. For me, this past weekend will not be one that is forgotten. Since being at Riverwalk, there are a few days that stood out "spectacular" days and they won't be forgotten. One example of a day like this was on December 3, 2019. On this day, here was my Facebook post: Lots of excitement this afternoon at Riverwalk Academy. Twenty percent of our students participated in one of our extracurricular activities this afternoon: color guard, marching band, marathon kids running club. #PowerOfThePride

I still remember standing outside on that afternoon and seeing so much activity taking place. It was exciting to see so much going on and and I still remember what I heard that afternoon between the drums of the marching band and the sounds the flags make while they twirl in the air.

I believe that April 23, 2022 is going to be another one of those days that I will never forget. The day started at the Rock Hill Velodrome where Riverwalk Academy was one of the sponsors of the Healthy Kids Zone. We had many staff there helping out (over 15), along with many student members of our Beta Club and Student Council. It was great seeing so much excitement happening. Then at 11:00 am, Coaches Mark and Tessa Wilson led a group activity for over 100 students in the center of the velodrome. It was a great event to not only get to observe, but to be a part of.

Then that evening, we held our first ever junior/senior prom. Simply put, it could not have been any better. The students who were part of the prom planning committee, along with their advisors, did something magical that evening. The students who attended that evening should be commended for how awesome they were last night. They had great attitudes, looked outstanding, and were grateful for the opportunity.

Like I mentioned, this past weekend will be one that I will not forget and one thing that stood out was that it took a group effort to make it happen. Our Pride (staff, students, and our parents) are what made this weekend a success

Thank you all for the role you play in making Riverwalk Academy Rock Hill's most loved charter school.

Have a great week, Lions!

In Strength and Blessings,

~Dr. Compton

EOCEP (End of Course Examination Program) - high school courses

The End-of-Course Examination Program (EOCEP) is a statewide assessment program of end-of-course tests for gateway courses awarded units of credit in English/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. The EOCEP encourages instruction in the specific standards for the courses, encourages student achievement, and documents the level of students’ mastery of the academic standards. Gateway courses in English/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies will be defined by the State Board of Education. EOCEP examination scores count 20 percent in the calculation of the student’s final grade in gateway courses. Defined gateway courses currently include Algebra 1, Intermediate Algebra, Biology 1, English 2, and United States History and the Constitution, or courses with other names and activity codes in which the academic standards corresponding to these subjects are taught.

Our students will take their tests on the following dates for the courses listed. As listed above, all testing will begin at 8:30am, any student arriving after 8:15am will not be allowed to test and will have to take the test during the make-up session on May 20, 2022. Book Drive

Donate new or gently used books for children in need! 📚 Promising Pages is a great organization based in Charlotte that gives books to children who cannot afford them. Send your child to school with donations that will be collected every morning. Don't forget the class that donates the most books will get a pizza party!

Unfortunately, Promising Pages has asked that we cannot donate certain types of books like damaged books, adult books, school textbooks, encyclopedias, and magazines.

Elementary Guidance with Mrs. Carr

Greetings,

I hope everyone has been able to attend some of the Come See Me Festival this weekend. It has been beautiful outside, so even if you didn’t get to the festival, I hope you have gotten outdoors. We were in the parade on Thursday and I got to hear my daughter playing in the band. It was so great to have this moment of pride as a parent, staff and employee of Riverwalk! They did terrific as usual! Saturday I did yard work and then got to dress up and attend our first ever Junior/Senior Prom! It was a huge success and again, my pride was overflowing and the memories made will stay with me, members of our staff and our students for years to come. Sunday was another wonderful day outside and at the festival. Our Beta club served at the Mother Goose Sundaes event and did a fantastic job. My weekend couldn’t have ended on a better note.

Last week (with the exception of one lesson) wrapped up my guidance lessons for the year. This is a bittersweet time for me as I love being in the classroom, but know that testing is coming and once done, we are through with another school year. It is easier this year, knowing that most of our students are returning to us in the fall and I will continue to watch them learn and grow into young contributing members of society. I have had this pleasure with our inaugural class of seniors who are graduating in just a few weeks. They all have secured jobs or admittance to the university they chose. I couldn’t have more pride!

As testing starts and we get through these last few weeks of school, please be patient with your little ones and remember that they sense summer just as we do. They are nervous about their tests and some even worry already about the next school year. Make sure to remind them they have done their best all year and just to continue doing their best and enjoy every moment. Stay positive and mindful. They have the skills and growth mindset. Be present and live today to the fullest and tomorrow will always be positive.

Hugs,

Mrs. Carr

Happy Sunday!

Well, what a great week we had back last week. Don’t get me wrong, having some time off is nice, but it filled my heart to be back with our staff and students. We had a mini carnival on Friday hosted by Mr. Young’s math students who created games for the elementary students at our school. I absolutely loved seeing our older students serving our younger students, and everyone having a great time in the process. This weekend was filled with many Riverwalk events that were fun to be apart of! I attended prom on Saturday night which was a blast and Sundaes with Glen and Mother Goose today. I also want to thank you all for participating in these outside of school events. The Riverwalk staff loves to see your smiling faces at all of these fun activities and I look forward to the events to come! Here’s what’s going on this week…

Things to know:

  • 9th grade families, we will be having a “rising 10th grade” meeting in April 25th (TOMORROW) at York Tech to discuss some of the changes that moving over to York Tech next year will bring. Please plan to attend with your student!
  • Everyone, Thursday night will be Riverwalk Family Night. Please plan to attend this event and support our high schoolers who have put much time and effort into planning it. See the flyer for more info.
  • -Middle/High, I have been spending some time working with Ms. Bumgarner planning some additions to the guidance portion of the website. Hopefully those resources will be added this week, so please stay tuned for that!

See you tomorrow!
