Voter ID Information

This is the recent updates to North Carolina State Board of Election's Voter ID Page. They have published a lot of new content on our Voter ID page. They also just published a new page: FAQ: Voter ID.

No-Fee ID Card:

Anyone who is 17 or older can get a “No-Fee ID Card” from the NC DMV. Information on this ID card is available on the DMV website: Official NCDMV: State IDs (ncdot.gov).

PhRMA Statement on Government Price Setting in Medicare Part D

Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) President and CEO Steve Ubl released the following statement on government price setting in Medicare Part D under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

“The administration is using the IRA’s price-setting scheme to drive political headlines, but patients will be disappointed when they find out what it means for them. There are no assurances patients will see lower out-of-pocket costs because the law did nothing to rein in abuses by insurance companies and PBMs who ultimately decide what medicines are covered and what patients pay at the pharmacy.

“As a result of the IRA, there are fewer Part D plans to choose from and premiums are going up. Meanwhile, insurers and PBMs are covering fewer medicines and say they intend to impose further coverage restrictions as the price-setting scheme is implemented. More than 3 million beneficiaries taking medicines with government-set prices will pay more in 2026.

Trump shares promises for Affordable Care Act, Social Security, Medicare

Former President Donald Trump laid out his economic policies and vision for the country at a rally in North Carolina on Wednesday, promising to keep intact the Affordable Care Act, Social Security and Medicare.

“A lot of people are very devastated by what’s happened with inflation,” Trump said in Asheville. “I gave Harris and Biden an economic miracle and they quickly turned it into an economic nightmare.”

Trump discussed his plans for “No Tax on Tips” and “No Tax on Social Security,” calling out Harris – who vists the state on Friday – for announcing a similar no tax on tip plan after Trump.

“To help seniors on fixed incomes who are suffering the ravages of inflation, there will be no tax on Social Security,” Trump said. “With this vote, I will end this injustice.”

New voter ID options approved in NC for college students, government workers

Student photo identification cards from Duke and Campbell universities are now among the list of approved IDs that can be used during this year's elections.

The State Board of Elections approved a dozen new IDs Tuesday, adding the Duke Card, the Campbell student voter ID and 10 others to the list of more than 120 acceptable IDs approved for voters. Many other colleges and universities have already had IDs approved.

But the board didn't approve an electronic ID card that some UNC-Chapel Hill students use because one of the board's Republican members objected to that option.

The elections board now plans to hold a meeting later this month to discuss the Chapel Hill virtual IDs in more detail, then take a vote on whether to accept them. The physical ID card used by UNC students has been approved already.

North Carolinians have new option for vehicle registration: What to know

North Carolina residents can now renew that vehicle registration at self-service kiosks provided by the Department of Motor Vehicles at a few locations.

The North Carolina DMV currently has three kiosks across the state, including one in Charlotte, Raleigh and Fayetteville. The kiosks allow residents to access certain services in an effort to shorten wait time and lines at the DMV.

Now, users can renew vehicle registrations and pay property taxes on new vehicles. At the end of the transaction, the kiosk will print a license plate sticker and registration card.

More kiosks are planned and the response from the public has been "overwhelmingly positive" so far according to NCDMV Commissioner, Wayne Goodwin.

Federal judge orders NC election officials to certify Justice for All Party

A federal judge is ordering North Carolina’s State Board of Elections to certify the Justice for All Party and to add its candidates to the state’s November ballot. That means voters would have the chance to choose left-of-center activist and academic Cornel West in the race for president.

The elections board denied JFA ballot access last month in a party-line 3-2 vote. The board’s Democratic majority rejected party certification. Republican board members supported JFA’s bid.

North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission makes changes to flounder season

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission approved a temporary amendment to the flounder rule.

The modification states that the 2024 flounder season will be open in Inland Fishing Waters and Joint Fishing Waters for hook and line fishing only on September 1 and 2 and again on September 7 and 8. The daily creel limit is one fish with a minimum size limit of 15 inches.
