The Chinese New Year , also known as the Spring Festival, is perhaps the most popular holiday celebrated in China, and we love that we can be part of this incredibly important celebration here in the states! How, you ask? Fish of course!

The Chinese New Year falls on the second new moon after the winter solstice. The farm is always buzzing upon its arrival. Orders increase, pick-ups and deliveries are on the rise and you can just feel the excitement upon the new lunar year. And after this past year, lets face it, there is a lot to be excited about! There is so much tradition involved in this celebration we decided to focus on one aspect...the feast!

Traditionally, a whole fish (and yes it must be whole) is served to symbolize the abundance you hope for the brand new year. We've heard that this is because the two words, fish and abundance, sound similar in the Chinese language. Makes sense to us! There are rules to eating this delectable dish too. For example, you are not supposed to turn your fish over as it symbolizes blessings being overturned. We know first hand that that doesn't change the delicious taste of the fish, just takes a bit more technique.

As we come close to this incredibly symbolic holiday, whether you celebrate with your own traditions or if you want to try something new. We invite you to take part, celebrate the new year and eat some delicious fish.
