Low-No Federal Transportation Grant
|
|
FTA-2023-002-TPM-LWNO, FTA-2023-003-TPM-BUS
- $1.7B ($1.2B Low or No Emission Grants; $470M Bus & Bus Facility Grants)
- Transition the nation’s transit fleet to the lowest polluting and most energy efficient transit vehicles
- Grant Applications due by 4/13/23

- Grants support the tech testing and validation
- Grid related technologies (energy efficiency, demand response, storage, net zero buildings)
- Sustainability including CO2 capture and decarbonizing
- Application deadline: March 3, 2023

EPA EJ Collaborative Problem-Solving (EJCPS) Cooperative Agreement Program
|
|
- Projects that address environmental and public health issues within an affected community;
- Assist recipients building partnerships to address environmental and public health concerns;
- $25,000,000 for up to 50 awards to Community Based Organizations (CBOs) proposing projects for up to $500,000 each.
- $5,000,000 for up to 33 awards to qualifying small CBOs with 5 or fewer full-time employees proposing projects for up to $150,000 each;
- Applications due April 10.

EPA Environmental Justice Government-to-Government (EJG2G) Program
|
|
- Projects that transform under-served communities into healthy, thriving communities;
- Funding for governmental and tribal entities;
- Support activities that lead to measurable environmental or public health results in disproportionately burdened communities;
- $20,000,000 for up to 20 awards for States partnering with Community Based Organizations (CBOs);
- $20,000,000 for up to 20 awards for tribal governments partnering with CBOs;
- $20,000,000 for up to 20 awards for local governments partnering with CBOs;
- $10,000,000 for up to 10 awards for U.S. Territories, Freely Associated States, Puerto Rico, and tribes in remote areas;
- Applications are due April 10.

EPA's Environmental Justice Small Grants Program
|
|
- Eligible applicants are limited to federally recognized tribal governments;
- Help communities understand and address exposure to multiple environmental harms and risks;
- $1.6 million for up 16 to 20 grants of up to $100,000 each;
- Applications are due by May 20

CARB Proposes Advanced Clean Fleet (ACF) Changes
|
|
CARB has posted proposed changes to the ACF Rule and scheduled a workshop to discuss these proposed changes on Monday February 13th.

Clean Vehicle Tax Credit Clarified
|
|
The US Treasury has clarified the credit eligibility by using the EPA Fuel Economy Labeling standard rather than the CAFE standard. The tax credit also caps at $55K for cars and $80K for pickups, SUVs and vans.

National Blueprint for Transportation Decarbonization
|
|
The US Departments of Energy, Environment, Transportation and Housing have jointly issued a “Blueprint for Transportation Decarbonization” with five guiding principles: Implement Bold Actions to Achieve Measurable Results, Embrace Creative Solutions Across the Transportation System, Ensure Safety, Equity, and Access, Increase Collaboration, Establish U.S. Leadership.

|
|
The NREL has published a guide for the aviation industry stressing the essential nature of cybersecurity as aircraft electrification grows and offers increased mobility options .

Kansas Proposes EV Charging Tax
|
|
The legislature in Kansas is considering a bill that would tax public EV charging at 3¢/kWh. The revenue would be used for the state highway fund. EVs in Kansas already pay a higher registration fee to help make up for lost tax revenue due to the EV’s not using conventional fuels that are taxed.

Electrify America Price Hike
|
|
Electrify America will increase their rates in March by 5¢ per kWh, up from 36¢ for Pass+ members and 48¢ for non-members. Pass+ members also pay a $4/month membership fee. The Energy Information Administration reports that the US average electricity rate is 11.1¢/kWh, up 11% from 2021. (Note: According to EnergyBot, the average electricity rate in California is 22.78¢/kWh. For comparison, the average rate in Utah is 8.8¢/kWh.)

Honda/GM Fuel Cell Production
|
|
Honda will ramp up production of the vehicle fuel cell system they developed jointly with GM from 2,000 annually by 2025 to 60,000 by 2030. The systems will be used in cars, trucks, off-road equipment and stationary power.
