EPA School Bus Funding
  • Applications can request funds for replacing up to 25 buses.
  • For the 2022 CSB Rebates, EPA anticipates offering $250 million for clean school buses and $250 million for zero-emission school buses. EPA may award more funding depending on demand and other considerations.
  • School districts applying directly for funds may only submit one application
  • Rebate amounts range from $15,000 to $375,000 depending on the fuel type, the bus weight class and the priority rating of the school district.
  • Applications are due by August 19.

$7.3 Billion in BIL For Resilient Infrastructure
The US DOT announced new guidance and $7.3 billion in over five years to help states and communities prepare for and respond to extreme weather events like wildfires, flooding, and extreme heat.

Inflation Reduction Act
The Inflation Reduction Act has a tax credit provision, but as currently written, the credit is only available for EVs that are made in North America, and made with components that are also sourced in North America. Other provisions in the Act include:.
  • Tax-exempt entities [e.g. government fleets] would have the option of electing to receive direct payments from the U.S. Treasury
  • Extends the credit for alternative fuel refueling property through December 31, 2032, with some modifications.
  • Extension of excise tax credits for alternative fuels, biodiesel, and renewable diesel.

Sacramento County HD BEV Awards - GreenPower and Phoenix Motorcars
Sacramento County Fleet Management has completed an open solicitation for HD BEV Shuttle and Vocational Work Trucks and is making awards to GreenPower and Phoenix Motorcars.
Nikola Acquires Battery Manufacturing
Nikola, manufacturer of HD BEV and FCV has acquired Romeo Power, will bring battery production in-house with the acquisition of Romeo Power. Nikola has begun production of their Tre BEV and plans FCV production by 2024, and has also Nikola announced three new hydrogen fueling stations in Southern California.

DANNAR MPS Aids Firefighters
The DANNAR Mobile Power System (MPS) was used by the Novato Fire Department to fight a grass fire. Because of its remote control capabilities, the MPS can operate in areas that would be too dangerous for a vehicle with an on-board operator.

$3/kg Hydrogen Tax Credit
The Inflation Reduction Act currently before the Senate has a tax credit for hydrogen of up to $3/kg, depending on the carbon intensity of the hydrogen.

BMW Begins Fuel Cell Production
BMW will begin production of a hydrogen-powered crossover, the iX5 and has announced plans to include hydrogen versions of the “Neue Klasse” platform scheduled for production in 2025.

Chevron Biofuels Plans
Chevron has completed their purchase of the Renewable Energy Group (REG) and has gotten to 70% of their 2030 goal of 100,000 barrels/day of biofuels already. Chevron Biofuels will produce:
  • Renewable Diesel;
  • Bio-diesel;
  • Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF);
  • Renewable Natural Gas (RNG);
  • Advanced Gasoline; and
  • Hydrogen (in partnership with Iwatani and Toyota).
