  • Community CarShare Program (Car-sharing program to benefit disadvantaged communities in the greater Sacramento area)
  • Clean Cars 4 All ( Helping low-income Sacramento County residents get a new mobility option when they turn in an old vehicle for scrap)
  • Off-Road Equipment Replacement (Incentives to replace Tier 3 and older or gasoline off-road equipment with Tier 4 Final or zero-emission level equipment)
  • Incentives to help fund the new installation of charging infrastructure

DOE "Ride & Drive Electric" $51M FOA Funding
  • Resilience strategies and plans for EV charging networks to ensure adequate and equitable access to reliable EV charging services;
  • Projects that will assess, develop, and/or test business models that integrate EV and/or charger deployment in ways that deliver mobility, economic, or other benefits to Justice40 and underserved communities;
  • Developing a diverse and highly skilled workforce within the electrified transportation industry to support the deployment and maintenance of EV charging related equipment including equipment;
  • Establish teams to assess the performance, reliability, and usability of AC Level 2 charging and/or DC fast charging (DCFC) stations across the United States.

  • $125 million;
  • Funding projects focusing on recycling of electronics batteries and battery-containing devices;
  • Increasing consumer participation in the recycling of batteries and battery-containing devices;
  • Concept Papers Due 8/17, Full applications due 11/29

EPA 2023 Clean School Bus (CSB) Grant Program
  • $400 million in competitive grant funding for zero-emission school buses, clean school buses, and EVSE.
  • Two grant categories: school district and Tribal applicants; and third-party applicants.
  • Priority given to replace buses serving high-need local education agencies, rural areas, Tribal school districts and public school districts receiving basic support payments for students living on Tribal land, and rural areas. 
  • At least 40% of the funding will go to disadvantaged communities.
  • Grant deadline: Tuesday, August 22.

  • The annual number of hurricanes that make landfall in the U.S. since 1900 is slightly declining, not increasing.
  • Total hurricane energy worldwide between 1980 and 2022 is decreasing, with 2022 being the second lowest in recorded history.
  • Satellite data shows a dramatic decline over the past 25 years in global wildfires.
  • Every dollar the EU spent on climate has led to a reduction of three cents in worldwide climate-caused damage (i.e. damage from floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, heat waves, etc.). Humans would have benefited more by spending those funds on directly improving people’s lives.

EV Brake Lights with Regen
Consumer Reports is reporting that the brake lights on some EVs (Genesis, Hyundai, Kia, and Mercedes-Benz) do not activate when the regenerative braking mode is engaged, meaning that the car can be essentially “braking” without the tail lights indicating that the car is slowing.

A UK startup, Nybolt, using a new battery technology (niobium anode technology) claims to be able to provide very fast charging rates with much smaller and lighter weight batteries.

EV Buyer Interest Flattens
In 2022, 49% of auto buyers expressed interest in EVs, an increase of 36% over buyers in 2021, but new buyer interest has declined slightly in 2023, especially among younger buyers, with major concerns expressed over battery life and overall affordability.

Texas Mandates NACS Chargers
The state of Texas will require all state-funded chargers to have the North American Charging Standard (NACS - the “Tesla” standard) connectors.

More OEMs Adopt Tesla's NACS
Rivian, Hyundai and Stellantis have all indicated that they will adopt the North American Charging Standard (NACS), the standard used by Teslas. These OEMs join Ford and GM, OEMs that have already adopted the NACS.

California Average Grid Electricity Carbon Intensity: California average grid electricity used as a transportation fuel in California: 79.43 to 81.49gCO2e/MJ.
CARB Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) Credits-$78.50
Chevron Renewable Diesel: Chevron’s El Segundo facility using natural gas, steam, grid electricity and hydrogen to make renewable diesel.
