CARB has posted their draft Advanced Clean Fleet Rule regulatory language. The regulation is divided into four sections:

CEC & Caltrans Federal Infrastructure Funding Workshop
May 16, 3pm
  • California will receive $384M over five years for EV infrastructure  
  • The funding is from the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act
  • The CEC and Caltrans will host a joint workshop to discuss developing a funding plan

Geotab Data Used in NACFE Reports on Truck Electrification
The North American Council on Freight Efficiency has released two white papers on the electrification of heavy-duty trucks. “Charting the Course for Early Truck Electrification” has used Geotab telematics data to identify the applications most easily done with electric trucks. “The Use Case For Heavy-Duty Regional Haul Tractors” finds that 50% of regional truck operations could be done with electric trucks today.
Lightning eMotors Drivetrain in New Bluebird Bus
Bluebird has announced that they are using a Lightning eMotors EV platform for their new Class 5/6 bus.

Nikola Class 8 BEV Commercial Production Has Begun
Nikola has begun commercial production of their Class 8 BEV truck tractor, the “TRE” at the Nikola factory located in Coolidge, Arizona following successful pilot deployments in the Ports of LA and Long Beach. Nikola will begin commercial production of the FCV “TRE” in 2023.

Phillips 66 Refinery Permit Approved for Renewable Diesel
The Phillips 66 refinery in Rodeo, California has received county approval to reconfigure their refinery to produce renewable diese and Sustainable Aviation Fuel from Fats, Oils & Grease (FOG). Production will ramp up from 50,000 barrels per day to 67,000 barrels per day.

EVSE Vulnerable to Hackers
Cybersecurity experts have been warning that public, fleet and private home EVSE are potential targets for hacking attacks including ransomware and time-of-charge disruptions or shutdowns. Hacking attacks have already been reported in the UK.

Volvo has announced that their entire model lineup will be EV, PHEV or HEV in 2023, and be 100% EV by 2030.

Freightliner eCascadia Production Q4 2022
Freightliner’s Class 8 eCascadia BEV will begin production this year with battery packs available for 155 mile and 230 mile range.

Volta "Truck as a Service" for the US
Volta’s BEV Class 7 Step Van, with unique street-level, cab-center driver seating, will be introduced in the US. Their “Truck as a Service” program will offer vehicle, charging, maintenance, insurance & driver training for one monthly fee.

EVs Without Brakes
Stellantis has developed a technology in their Formula E race cars that takes regenerative braking one step further, with regenerative braking slowing the vehicle and reverse power to completely stop the vehicle. This approach completely eliminates brake wear, but current vehicles are also equipped with conventional braking systems.

Goodyear's Progress Toward Petroleum-Free Products
After extensive testing, Goodyear has substituted soybean oil for petroleum oil in their  Metroliner G152 and G652 transit tires. Goodyear is working toward a petroleum-free product line by 2040.
