Commercial Autonomous Heavy Duty Trucks
Commercial Autonomous vehicles are developing quickly, with Waymo starting Class 8 trucks (with safety drivers onboard) in Texas. UPS is working with Penske and others on an autonomous freight network with another autonomous provider, TuSimple.

USPS Negotiations for Delivery Trucks
The US Postal Service has gotten the bids and is starting the negotiations for a $6B purchase agreement for postal delivery vehicles. The bidders are: Karsan, a Turkish-based manufacturer partnered with body company Morgan Olson, Workhorse, and Oshkosh partnered with Ford.

German National Hydrogen Business Council
The California Hydrogen Business Council is hosting a webinar on the German National Hydrogen Strategy. In June, the German government allocated €9 billion for renewable hydrogen production, and specified that €2 billion of this was for projects outside Germany.

Elon Musk Teases Jump in Energy Density
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has hinted that he will be using batteries that have a 50% increase in energy density in 3- 4 years. The battery industry has only been predicting a 20% increase over that same period.

California Adopts Strong New Regulation for Heavy-Duty Diesel Trucks
The California Air Resources Board unanimously approved a new regulation, the “Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus Regulation” that will dramatically reduce smog-forming emissions from heavy-duty diesel trucks.

Mahindra Announces Plans to Use REE Platform for Commercial EVs
Mahindra has announced that it plans to use an EV “Skateboard” platform developed by Israli startup REE Automotive, placing 100% of the batteries in the platform, all motors as in-wheel hub motors, and all cooling systems and power management systems in arches over the wheels. This unique design creates a universal template to accommodate a wide range of body configurations.

LAPD Selling Fleet of BMW i3 BEVs
The City of LA has surplussed 100 BMW I3 BEVs, and they are being sold through the original delivering dealer, Century BMW. They are available for sale, priced around $15K, and some have low- to extremely-low miles. Century BMW is located at 1139 W. Main St., Alhambra, CA 91801 (800) 286-4269.

Refineries Report
For the week ending 8/121/20, refineries in California produced 259,644 gallons of gasoline and 92,338 gallons of diesel. Gasoline production decreased by 3% and diesel production increased by a fraction of a percent from last week’s production numbers.
