Caltech's Rocket Fund is open now, with applications due 3/1/21. Grants from $25K to $75K for clean technologies and sustainable startup companies are available, with additional access to legal services, tech incubators and technology networking opportunities.

DERA 2021 Grant Program
The DERA 2021 grant program has been announced by the EPA. $46M will be available with applications due 3/16/21. Government agencies and NGOs are eligible to apply. New California Updates, Regulations, and Requirements
Upcoming CARB Fleet Workshop
HD I/M Regulation 2/22/21: This new regulation will apply to all vehicles over 14,000#. Fleets will need to establish an account and submit regular reports. CARB also expects to do on-road “remote sensing” to identify vehicles with excessive emissions. 
Advanced Clean Fleets Workshop
Advanced Clean Fleets Workshop 3/4/21: This regulation will require fleets in California to move to zero-emission vehicles in accordance with governor Newsom’s executive order.

Cummins is supplying the fuel cell that will power the “Sea Change”, a ferry built by Golden Gate Zero Emission Marine and set to operate in the San Francisco Bay. The 360kW fuel cell will power the 70-foot, 75-passenger ferry at 22 knots

Study Compares Propane Carbon Footprint to Electric
The Propane Research and Education Council has released a study comparing heavy-duty renewable propane vehicles to grid-electric vehicles. Vermont, which gets grid electricity from domestic and Canadian hydro, is the only state in the US where grid electric vehicles have lower CO2 emissions.

Daimler Plans ePowertrain for Electric Freightliners
Daimler will use the ePowertrain supplied by their subsidiary, Detroit Diesel, in the Freightliner eCascadia (250 mile range) and eM2 (230 mile range) trucks. Three battery pack options will be available at 210kWh, 315kWh and 475kWh.

Rivian has attracted another $2.65 billion in financing, adding Fidelity, Amazon and T. Rowe Price to existing investments from Amazon and Ford and a 100,000 delivery van purchase commitment from Amazon.

New EV Fast Chargers Along Highways in Central California
Caltrans has installed 9 new DC Fast Charger locations in the Central Valley. Two charger locations are on I-5, one near Grapevine, and one at Kettleman City, one is on 58 in Bakersfield and six are along Highway 99 from Delano to Madera.

XL Fleet and Curbtender have partnered to develop Plug-in Hybrid and Battery Electric Class 3 - 8 trucks for the refuse industry, including a truck with the Curbtender Quantum rear loader body.

California Refineries: For the week ending 1/29/21, refineries in California produced 6,017  barrels of gasoline and 1,611 barrels of diesel. The current LCFS Credit for 1 MT of CO2 is $193.00.
