Battery Workforce Challenge
|
|
The US DOE is partnering with Stellantis and other agency and industry partners on a national student competition at universities and vocational schools to design, build, test, and integrate an advanced EV battery pack into a Stellantis vehicle. Argonne is now accepting applications from colleges and universities to select up to 11 teams that will participate in the Battery Workforce Challenge collegiate and vocational program.

EPA EJ Collaborative Problem-Solving (EJCPS) Cooperative Agreement Program
|
|
- Projects that address environmental and public health issues within an affected community;
- Assist recipients building partnerships to address environmental and public health concerns;
- $25,000,000 for up to 50 awards to Community Based Organizations (CBOs) proposing projects for up to $500,000 each.
- $5,000,000 for up to 33 awards to qualifying small CBOs with 5 or fewer full-time employees proposing projects for up to $150,000 each;
- Applications due April 10.

EPA Environmental Justice Government-to-Government (EJG2G) Program
|
|
- Projects that transform under-served communities into healthy, thriving communities;
- Funding for governmental and tribal entities;
- Support activities that lead to measurable environmental or public health results in disproportionately burdened communities;
- $20,000,000 for up to 20 awards for States partnering with Community Based Organizations (CBOs);
- $20,000,000 for up to 20 awards for tribal governments partnering with CBOs;
- $20,000,000 for up to 20 awards for local governments partnering with CBOs;
- $10,000,000 for up to 10 awards for U.S. Territories, Freely Associated States, Puerto Rico, and tribes in remote areas;
- Applications are due April 10.

Engine Manufacturers Association (EMA) Challenges CARB
|
|
The EMA has submitted comments to the US EPA on March 6 challenging CARB’s authority to establish stringent regulations, including the Advanced Clean Fleet Regulation, asserting that the regulations will mandate vehicles that the OEMs are not able to actually build in the timeframe specified.

|
|
GiddyUp Power will be opening a High Speed Charging “Hub” in the Power Inn Light Rail Parking Lot. The “Hub” will have ten 175kW DCFC (including two ADA spaces) with 24/7 access and camera monitoring. The spaces will be reservable for recharging “Appointments”.

Ford has confirmed the rumors that their “Project T3” is official, and stands for “Trust The Truck.” The goal of Project T3 is to develop a truck platform that is, “...fully updatable, constantly improving, and supports towing, hauling, exportable power and endless new innovations owners will want,” as stated in a Ford press release.

Shell SAF Agreement with Alaska Airlines
|
|
Alaska Airlines has announced a program with Shell to significantly expand their use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) as they work toward work toward meeting their goal of net-zero GHG emissions by 2040.
|

Hyundai has released a video of a robot charging a Hyundai Ioniq. Looking like a cross between R2D2 and a dentist office X-Ray, the self-propelled robot uses 3D cameras and Artificial Intelligence to approach the car, plug–in, charge the car, unplug and back away. The car uses self-backing and automatic charge port door opening software.

Auto expert Sandy Munro has noted that the Model Y battery pack cannot be repaired, damage the battery pack may frequently result in the insurance company being forced to total the vehicle. This will likely result in higher insurance costs and also create a significant negative environmental impact as damaged batteries pile up in scrap yards.

Rivian Navigation Adds Tesla Superchargers
|
|
Rivian has added the Tesla sites that have compatible Superchargers to the navigation app in their R1S and R1T vehicles.

Used ICE and EV Prices Drop
|
|
Used car prices have dropped almost 9% year-over-year, but used EVs have dropped an average of 13% and the Tesla Model 3 has dropped a whopping 21.5%.
|

LG has announced that they will build the largest battery manufacturing facility in the US, a $5.5B factory in Queen Creek, Arizona. The factory will make cylindrical cells for EVs and pouch cells for energy storage systems.
