The Sac Metro Air District has announced the release of an $18M RFP on March 29, 2021.
Funding will be available to replace medium and heavy-duty vehicles with zero-emission trucks and buses, install low carbon fueling infrastructure, replace older farm tractors, upgrade locomotives or complete other eligible projects.

DOE Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy has announced its intent to issue three sustainable transportation technology funding opportunity announcements (FOAs) in Spring 2021. 
  • Improving the vehicle efficiency and safety of freight transportation to develop and demonstrate higher efficiency, low-emission medium- and heavy-duty trucks and freight systems.
  • Develop affordable, efficient, and clean transportation options to accelerate the development and widespread use of a variety of innovative transportation technologies. 
  • Develop technologies that convert domestic biomass and other waste resources into low carbon biofuels and bioproducts.

The California Air Resources Board approved The Advanced Clean Trucks regulation that requires heavy-duty fleet operators in California to report specific information about their fleets by April 1, 2021. There is a significant fine for any fleets failing to comply.

Toyota Explains Commitment to Hydrogen as Zero-Emission Technology
Toyota’s Mirai is mentioned in a full page ad in the March 23 Los Angeles Times placed by the Japanese government explaining their commitment to hydrogen as a zero-emission technology for transportation and energy generation. In addition to their light-duty Mirai, Toyota’s truck subsidiary, Hino, will be demonstrating their Class 8 hydrogen fuel cell truck in mid-2021 in California.

Rivian Announces Charging Network
Rivian, the electric pickup and SUV startup partially owned by Ford and sitting on a publicly announced commitment by Amazon to purchase 100,000 SUV delivery vehicles, has announced that they will build a network of 600 charging stations with a total of 3,500 200kW DC fast charging ports that will be available only to Rivian R1T and R1S vehicles, and will also install thousands of public 11.5kW Level 2 chargers.

Amazon Tests Rivian Electric Vans in Hilly San Francisco
Amazon has already begun using Rivian.electric delivery vans, beginning on flatter terrain in Los Angeles in February, now adding San Francisco in March. CEC Awards Sierra Northern Railroad $4M
The Sierra Northern Railroad, operating on 75 miles of track in the Sacramento Region including moving freight in and out of the Port of Sacramento, has been awarded $4M by the CEC to demonstrate a hydrogen fuel cell locomotive.
