News

Welcome to my new Assistant Deputy

Introducing my new Assistant Deputy, Viviana Dazo. Viviana was born and raised in West Sacramento and is a recent graduate of the University of California, Merced, where she earned her B.S in Bioengineering. She participated for two years in the West Sacramento Youth Police Academy as well as the Youth Leadership Academy through SACOG. She is immersing herself in the nuances of all things Yolo County and has hit the ground running.

Congressman Mike Thompson presents a $432,291.00 check to the Clarksburg Fire Protection District

Congressman Mike Thompson was able to secure funds in the amount of $432,291.00 for the Clarksburg Fire Protection District to upgrade equipment. A new water tender was purchased with funds. This new vehicle is critical as there are few fire hydrants available in the area. The replacement of aging equipment helps make the Clarksburg community safer, especially in these times of extreme fire danger.

Senior Resource Guide

Our office has stacks of the Yolo Healthy Aging Alliance Senior Resource Guide in both Spanish and English. This guide contains valuable information and resources for seniors. Please contact my Assistant Deputy Viviana Dazo at 916-375-6443 if you would like a copy.

Thriving Pink Ribbon Cutting

Thriving Pink is a non-profit organization that supports those affected by breast cancer. On July 10th I attended this joyful ribbon cutting of their new office in West Sacramento. Here’s to continuing our fight against and support of those whose lives are impacted by breast cancer.

River Cats Game with Downtown Streets Team

Baseball – our national pastime! On July 30th, I was able to provide tickets to the DST to attend a River Cats game. The DST “builds Teams that restore dignity, inspire hope, and provide a pathway to recover from homelessness.” You may see the men and women on the streets of West Sacramento in their yellow shirts picking up trash. If you do, give them a honk and a wave.

Bat Talk and Walk with the Yolo County Basin Foundation

Another beautiful summer night and successful evening at our annual Bat Talk and Walk on July 31st. If you have never attended this fun-filled and informative event, you have another chance next year. In the spring, my office will be posting on social media the 2025 date. Be sure and sign up as soon as you see the advertisement for this event as it always reaches maximum capacity.

SACOG Denver Study Mission

I attended SACOG’s Denver Study Mission June 26th-28th. This study mission shows us how Denver has gone about tackling issues of housing, homelessness, infill, and transportation – all key issues similar to those facing our region. I returned home with inspirations in how to utilize what I learned for the benefit our community.

Tour of Yolo County Central Landfill with CSAC President Bruce Gibson

On August 7th, Supervisor Lucas Frerichs and I hosted CSAC President Bruce Gibson on a tour of our Yolo County Landfill and updated him on our Crisis Now initiative. CSAC serves as a voice for California’s 58 counties and focuses on educating the public about the importance and need for county programs. Our Yolo County Landfill uses progressive composting techniques to maintain thousands of tons through organic waste processing. Our Crisis Now Program is focused on providing easier access to crisis care and mental health services to ensure that residents of the county are helped in a timely manner. You can read more about it using the link below.
