RESEDA RIVER LOOP FUNDING REMOVED

On February 7, Councilmember Bob Blumenfeld made a motion in the City Council to remove funding of $3,575,996.50 from the Reseda River Loop Greenway Project (Aliso Creek

Confluence Park).

The funds originally provided for the Reseda River Loop are Excess Bond Proceeds from the former Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) Reseda-Canoga Park project area. These funds are subject to various restrictions: they must be spent on pre-approved projects within the boundaries of the former CRA area, and they must be expended by the end of 2024.

Due to the complexities of permitting and constructing projects along the LA River, the Reseda River Loop has experienced delays, resulting in the inability to spend the funds by the end of this year.

RESEDA NC IN ACTION: LOCAL EVENTS UPDATE

This year, the Reseda Neighborhood Council hit the pavement to volunteer at several local events in Reseda, including the Ready for Reseda: Explore the Corridor Unveiling on March 17th and the 3rd Annual Valley Day of Service hosted by Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel. Taking place on May 18th, the event provided opportunities for residents to give back in various ways, both at Pierce College and other locations.

At Pierce College, volunteers, including the RNC, pitched in by assembling homeless outreach kits, learning CPR, donating blood, and supporting initiatives for domestic violence survivors and homebound seniors. Additionally, we had the chance to meet and interact with rescue dogs awaiting adoption.

As the day drew to a close, the results were nothing short of remarkable: 8 dogs found loving homes, over 36 pints of blood generously donated, 100 individuals trained in CPR, more than 1000 pounds of trash collected, 40 native plants and fruit trees planted, over 1000 sandwiches assembled, and the accomplishments kept growing. To prevent the forfeiture of the former CRA funds, Councilmember Blumenfield submitted a motion to transfer them to the Madrid Theater project in Canoga Park, which currently faces a funding shortfall.

This constitutes a genuine funding swap, as Councilmember Blumenfield will ensure the Reseda River Loop is fully funded using alternative sources."

These changes mainly focus on improving sentence structure, clarity, and consistency in terminology.

To share your thoughts on this decision or any other matters concerning Reseda, reach out to Councilmember Bob Blumenfield at councilmember.blumenfield@lacity.org or visit https://cd3.lacity.gov.

RESEDA NC COMMITTEES NEED YOU

The RNC provides an opportunity for you to actively contribute to positive change in your community. Whether it's shaping development, coordinating clean-up efforts, tackling issues like chronic homelessness and urban blight, or spearheading events for both the youth and seniors like the annual Reseda Artwalk and the Senior Symposium, the RNC is dedicated to making a difference. We need your help to achieve these goals!

We're actively seeking volunteers to join various committees, such as the Youth & Education Committee, which focuses on enhancing community affairs and delivering essential services to the youth, or the Unhoused Neighbor Advocacy Committee, which advises the city on addressing the current homelessness crisis.

If you're interested in joining one of our committees, please reach out to the RNC Vice President at vicepresident@resedacouncil.org.

FLOOD WATERS IN RESEDA

During rainy weather, the intersection of Sherman Way and Amigo experiences flooding beyond the curb due to minimal drainage. At the January meeting of the Reseda Neighborhood Council, a letter was drafted and forwarded to relevant departments. The response indicated that while it's not a straightforward issue, efforts are underway to address it and find a suitable solution.

In a significant development, LA City Mayor Karen Bass' Proposed Budget includes $640K in funding for the Sherman Way/Capps storm drain. For more information on drainage issues in your area, visit Los Angeles Public Works at pw.lacounty.gov/swp/drainage-issue/.

- a complete upgrade by the developer, the space will be transformed into a boutique cinema. A highlight of the renovation includes a two-level upscale lounge area for guests to enjoy. With construction scheduled to commence in late 2024 and an anticipated opening in 2025, local restaurants and businesses interested in being part of the Reseda Theater project are encouraged to contact Sandra Hernandez at sandra@azuredevelopmentco.com. RESEDA SKATE RINK UPDATE

Construction has officially begun on the highly anticipated $26 million year-round ice skating and roller hockey facility in Reseda. Situated at 18128 and 18210 Sherman Way, this ambitious project marks a significant step forward for city officials who have long sought to introduce an ice rink to the area, aiming to invigorate the surrounding community. Thanks to a partnership agreement between Councilmember Bob Blumenfield and the Los Angeles Kings professional ice hockey team, the vision is becoming a reality. The facility will boast a 26,800 square-foot skating rink complete with public seating, as well as an outdoor skating area.

Supporting amenities include cooling infrastructure, ice grooming equipment storage, locker rooms for two teams, restrooms, and office space, all housed within a 1,200-square-foot building. The rink is anticipated to be completed by the first quarter of 2025. For more information visit https://cd3.lacity.gov.
