RESEDA IS CELEBRATED BY THE GETTY

GETTY 25 CELEBRATES RESEDA WITH ART FESTIVAL

11:11 Projects joined the Getty in celebrating their 25th anniversary by bringing a weekend of art, music, food, and more to Reseda Park on July 9 &10, 2022.

Over 8,000 people a day celebrated the intersection of ART + MENTAL HEALTH awareness at the festival. During the pandemic people suffered a lot of stress and 11:11 wanted to create a space where the community could be creative, while reflecting on the struggle of the last couple of years, and still having a ton of fun together.

The Reseda Neighborhood Council participated in the event, bringing families together by coloring Reseda themed postcards at our booth and providing feedback on how they would like to see Reseda improve.

We hope you enjoyed the event. Let us know if you would like to see more events like this in Reseda.

COMMUNITY NEWS

THE RESEDA NC NEEDS YOU!

There’s three types of people, those who make things happen, those who let things happen, and those who wonder what happened. Don’t you want to be the first type?

Well, YOU CAN BE!

The RNC is your way to help make a difference in your community. From telling the city how you want development in your community to be done, to organizing cleanups, to working on problems currently facing your community like chronic homelessness and urban blight, to organizing events for the community’s youth and seniors, and initiating events like the annual Artwalk. The RNC is working to change things for the better, and we need your help to do it!

We currently have three Board Member positions open to be filled by active, dedicated community members who want Reseda to improve. These positions are for At-Large, Young Adult and Youth Board Members. The qualifications for these seats can be found in our bylaws located at

https://resedacouncil.org/web1/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/RNC-Bylaws-Approved-11232020-1.pdf?x48066

We also have committees looking for volunteers to help such as the Planning and Land Use Management Committee that helps chart the course for Reseda’s development and evaluates and considers proposed developments in the community, or the Unhoused Neighbor Advocacy Committee which is advising the city on possible solutions to the current unhoused crisis.

If you would like to apply for one of the Board Member Seats or join one of our committees, please contact the RNC secretary at secretary@resedacouncil.org

COMMUNITY NEWS

(Continued from Page 1)

Jimmy Reyes was elected to fill the vacant Business seat on the Board. He is the Lead Pastor at the Valley Vineyard Church in Reseda. The church has been around for 43 years in the valley (30 years in its current location at the old Reseda Bowl location).  In recent years, this faith community has been gaining recognition for serving Reseda with free drive-in movie and community events, free backpack giveaways, after-school mentoring programs, voting area during elections, and a weekly drive-in food pantry.

Jimmy has lived in the valley for over 35 years. He has been married for 22 years and together with his wife have a 12-year old son and a 7-year old daughter. His family joined the Valley Vineyard Church in 2016.

Jimmy has a desire to learn how to better serve our Reseda community.  He also believes that the way forward is through more collaboration between government entities, local businesses, faith communities, non-profits, and local residents joining together to care for Reseda.

Jimmy enjoys spending time with his family, reading good books, eating diverse food, and rooting for the LA Lakers.

RESEDA'S STATEMENTS MAKE AN IMPACT

Reseda Neighborhood Council uses its voice to tell the Los Angeles City government what we think. Last year, we filed 51 Community Impact Statements (CIS) to the City Council, various City Boards, and Commissions. Reseda is number 3 in the city for filing CIS and number 1 in the valley. Over the last year, we took positions on redistricting, neighborhood council election spending, the municipal lobbying ordinance, a Jobs and Economic Development Incentive Zone, and more. We’re proud to use our voice to advocate for a better Reseda and a better Los Angeles.
