GRACE NOTES
~A weekly newsletter of grace and information~
Be a pointe of grace — God’s grace, to everyone you meet . . .
| |
|
As people of Grace, made one in the waters of baptism, we are strengthened by diversity. We are a community that welcomes people of every ability, age, citizenship status, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, language, life circumstance, marital status, political perspective, race, sexual orientation, and creed.
Whether you are a believer, doubter, or seeker, or something in between,
you are welcomed and valued here. We celebrate God’s unconditional love and respond joyfully to all of God’s diverse people present here.

Service of Healing Prayer
Sunday, July 7 at 10:30am
(1st Sunday of Each Month)
The Pointe of Grace Care and Prayer Team and Order of St Luke offer a Service of Healing Prayer immediately after worship on Sunday, July 7th. The service is expected to last 20-30 minutes and will include quiet time for contemplation and private prayer, a Scripture reading and short reflection, and a time where prayer ministers are available to pray with you. You are welcome to request prayer for yourself or anyone else for any reason at all. You may choose to pray with a prayer minister or simply to pray by yourself during the service. This is a wonderful gift and we encourage you to attend.

Pub Theology
Sunday, July 7 from 2-3:30pm
(1st Sunday of Each Month)
at Mukilteo Lodge Sports Grille
So what is Theology Pub? In a nutshell, it’s people sitting around a table, talking about issues of faith and philosophy, ethics and ideas over a beverage.
It is a safe space, where people can be open and honest about topics of faith, ask any questions, and at the end of the night, know that it’s perfectly fine if we disagree with one another.
In other words, this isn’t church, and no one is going to make anyone pray, sign a faith statement, or tithe (though be sure to tip the bartender!) And to be clear, beer is not a requirement! Non-alcoholic beverages are available too. All are welcome, regardless of beverage choice.
In its simplest form:
Theology Pub is open conversation about stuff that matters over a good beverage.

What's Pastor Pam Reading this Summer?
I regularly have two piles of books which I am reading: one for enjoyment and one for continuing education. My enjoyment pile usually has to do with memoirs, novels, or hiking.
After the Bishop's Convocation in April, I have been deeply moved to understand more of the history of our nation and the White Christian Nationalism movement. As it is an election year, and we see more and more evidence of church & state blending, I encourage you to understand these deep roots in our nation's history too. I invite you to read any of the books listed HERE for your own personal further education on the topic.
I will be leading a conversation in the fall for Adult Faith Formation on the topic of White Christian Nationalism for three Sundays: I hope you will join me. I am currently reading for enjoyment: Journeys North by Barney Scout Mann. And I recently finished The Trail by Ethan Gallogly. For continuing education on White Christian Nationalism I am reading: Confident Pluralism by John Inazu, The Power Worshippers by Katherine Stewart, and Faith, Nationalism, and the Future of Liberal Democracy by David Elcott. I also have recently viewed on Amazon Prime, God and Country, and Bad Faith. Both wonderful documentaries, which I encourage you to watch in preparation for our classes in the fall. What are you reading this summer?

Coming This Fall!
Parenting with Love & Logic Class
When kids hit their teen years, parenting takes on a whole new dimension. Along that, kids are frequently dealing with the challenges of social media and other technologies that we didn't have as kids ourselves. Still, we want them ready for their adult lives ahead while empowering them to make positive decisions and learning from their mistakes.
During the 2024-25 adult learning cycle, we are offering a parenting class and support group to help gain new perspective and strategies as parents.
If you are interested in joining Karl Olson, church member, Love and Logic trainer, educator, and parent, on Sundays during adult learning time, please e-mail him at karltolson@gmail.com and he will respond back to interested people to determine the schedule and frequency. While parenting can feel lonely, this is a chance to come together to celebrate and collaborate.

WE NEED YOU!
In June of 2020 PoG voted to become a Reconciling in Christ (RIC) congregation, which means that we are welcoming and affirming to ALL - particularly LGBTQIA+ siblings.
For us to continue to advertise that we are a RIC Congregation
we need to have a group lead this ministry.
What does that mean? It means people would help organize others from PoG to participate in the PRIDE Parade, assess our campus and liturgy on how we are being inclusive and welcoming, schedule speakers and/or book studies on how to be allies for LGBTQIA+ siblings, and collaborate and partner with other local faith communities for events.
If we do not have this team in place and functioning we will lose our RIC status.
If this is part of PoG's identity and you are passionate about this cause, PLEASE reach out to the office to be added to the team and we'll send a group email out to help relaunch the formation of this group.
Thank you for being intentional in proclaiming God's love to all!
