ARE YOU MISSING SOME TAX DOCUMENTS?

"Back in the day", investment companies, colleges, and insurance companies would mail you your year-end statements and tax forms. Today, many of them no longer provide these documents, instead they require you to go to their website and download the paperwork you are looking for. Here is a list of some of the things you might need to go online to look for:

*HSA year end statements

*1099s from your IRA, retirement funds, or investment accounts

*1098-T for college tuition

*W2-G for online gambling

It is helpful to have these documents when we begin your tax return, so visit the websites of the entities you are working with and download them before completing your organizer.

REDUCING YOUR SECURITY RISK

We here at Jellison CPA are doing our best to reduce your security risk with some of our new software upgrades. We do want to remind you that you also need to do your best to reduce that risk as well. It is never safe to send anything with sensitive information such as social security numbers or bank account information through regular email. Our website provides you with each staff member's secure SafeSend upload link for your convenience. Just go to the Contact or SafeSend page and choose the staff member you want to send a document to. If you aren't sure who to send it to, it is always a safe choice to send items to our office manager Kim and she will find the staff member that needs your items.

SEND YOUR FINANCIAL ADVISOR YOUR TAX RETURN IN SAFE SEND

Safe send added a new feature to the tax returns this year that makes it easy to send your tax return directly to your financial advisor while you are reviewing it. In the review section of the tax return, in the top right corner there will be a Forward and Download button. Click forward and a window will pop up where you can indicate what you want sent and the email and phone number of who it should be sent to. (Phone number is not necessary). You can add as many people as you would like. Doing it while you are in the return will save you time later and save your financial advisor from asking for it in the summer.

Reminder: If you know that you won't have your organizer completed or all your documents together before March 15, and you would like an extension, let us know before March 15 and we will wave the extension fee for this year.
