Celebrate Obion County's 200th birthday with merchandise from Discovery Park's gift shop

Discovery Park is joining in the celebration of Obion County’s 200th birthday by creating a line of merchandise featuring each of the nine towns in the county. 


The illustration pictured above was created by Discovery Park’s award-winning graphic designer, Dylan Schaefer. It features illustrations relevant to the area including wildlife, notable landmarks and other icons that are associated with Obion County and its history.


The image will soon be available for purchase on apparel, note cards, posters and tote bags.

Lindsay Frilling receives recognition from TCCE & TEDC

Tennessee Chamber of Commerce Executives names Lindsay Frilling, as its 2023 Chamber Executive of the Year at its annual meeting held in Kingsport, TN.

Lindsay Frilling, CEcD, was presented with an award for serving as the 2022-2023 President. This position comes after years of service in the economic development community. She will now serve as the Immediate Past President.

New mural in downtown Kenton complete

The new mural in downtown Kenton is now complete with a fun twist! There are hidden squirrels all through the mural. Some are white, others are not. Some are obvious, some not so obvious. How many can you find?

Middle schoolers at Obion County Schools participate in Medical Services and Design Week

OC middle schoolers got to learn a little more about the community they live in, ask in depth questions about a day in the life of these professionals, and got a little hands on experience!

UCHS senior group tour Tyson, Greenfield Products as part of Manufacturing Day

An inquisitive group of Union City High School seniors got an up-close look at a couple of local career options recently.

 

Tyson Foods and Greenfield Products hosted UCHS students on Manufacturing Day. The two businesses provided tours, made management personnel available to answer student questions and even provided samples from the nation’s second-largest processor and marketer of chicken.

 

Lana Wood of the Northwest and Southwest TN Workforce Board organized the tours and Manufacturing Day festivities.

Ag Day for Adult Leadership

In November, Adult Leadership participated in Ag Day. The class visited the Tyson Chicken Plant, Williams Sausage Company, and Nutrien Ag Solutions.

Obion County Director of Schools awarded

Tim Watkins, Director of Schools, was selected as the 2022-2023 System Administrator of the Year for Athletic District 8 after a review of all nominations. He was awarded at the TSSAA West Regional meeting on Nov. 8th at Liberty Tech High School.

Bike TN Community Outreach Program Meeting held

at the Obion County Public Library

TDTD will launch a new statewide road cycling initiative in 2024. Bike Tennessee will showcase Tennessee’s scenic backroads and rural communities to the growing cycling consumer group.


Bike Tennessee will feature curated routes along the backroads of rural Tennessee. The routes are mapped on low-traffic scenic roadways, highlighting “must-see” stops and amenities in nearby communities, and will be downloadable in the Ride With GPS app.

TACL Conference 2023

Audrey Gregg and Luz Morales attended the 2023 TACL Conference at the Lodge at Paris Landing. Many Adult Leadership programs from around the state joined together for 3 days of classes and speakers. Audrey is the 2023-2024 President and Luz serves as the 2023-2024 Vice President.
