Arizona Partnership for Healthy Communities Heat Resilient Communities Webinar

A message from the Arizona Partnership for Healthy Communities:

Join the Arizona Partnership for Healthy Communities for a webinar, "Heat Resilient Communities," on May 20 from 1-2 PM., sponsored by Arkos Health. Increased heat as a result of climate change isn't a distant threat - it's imposing increasingly challenging problems and reshaping our neighborhoods right now, significantly impacting the fabric of our communities and disproportionately affecting the health and well-being of many residents.

Our panel of experts will delve into the unique set of challenges confronting our desert cities, offering community-based approaches and innovative solutions. In the face of escalating occurrences of extreme heat events in the Southwest, this webinar seeks to equip attendees with the ideas and actions necessary to safeguard the welfare of individuals and families at the forefront of one of climate change's deadliest dangers.

Speakers include:

  • Augie Gastelum, Interim Executive Director – RAIL CDC
  • Maren Mahoney, Director – Arizona Governor's Office of Resiliency
  • Nicole Rodriguez, Board Member -–Trees Matter & Urban Phoenix Project

Asthma Awareness Month

May is recognized as Asthma Awareness Month. There is a lot of work being done in public health to reduce the onset of asthma. This month we're highlighting the work the Massachusetts Department of Public Health is doing in this space, including collaborating with partners and stakeholders to develop an official state strategic plan for asthma.

HIPMC Spotlight

Meet Irene Cassidy, the new Community Health Improvement Supervisor!

We would like to introduce you to Irene Cassidy, the new Community Health Improvement Supervisor! Irene leads the Maricopa County Department of Public Health team that supports the HIPMC and CHIP work. We asked Irene a few questions to provide insight into her new role. Take a look below!

What are you responsible for in your role?

In my role as the new Community Health Improvement Supervisor, I have major shoes to fill left by Alejandra Zavala. I will lead and support the operation of the HIPMC Steering Committee and Quarterly Partner Meetings. I will also help to support the creation of the CHIP.

What are you looking forward to most in your new role? What excites you about the HIPMC?

I am super excited to get to work more closely with diverse organizations throughout the county to improve the quality of life of our residents through the creation of the CHIP.

What does a typical work day look like for you?

Every day is different. Some days are spent doing outreach in the community, some days are spent working through budget, planning and grant management. Most days are spent working with the amazing HIPMC team, Thao and Lehem.

What would your slogan be if you were a brand?

Leave it better than you found it 😊

How can an organization/company get in contact with you?

They can email me at Irene.Cassidy@maricopa.gov
