Adult DayCare Program Closure Month of July
The health and wellbeing of our seniors is our number one priority at the Osceola Council on Aging. Due to the recent increase in COVID-19 cases in our community, we feel it is best to close our Adult DayCare program for the month of July. Osceola Council on Aging Earned a 2020 Silver Rating from the NAFC Quality Standards Program
Osceola Council on Aging earned a 2020 Silver Rating from the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics (NAFC) Quality Standards Program.
The mission of the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics is to ensure the medically underserved have access to affordable health care. The NAFC and its members are dedicated to ensuring that patients receive quality health care. To quantify and qualify the care provided at the Free and Charitable Clinic network, the NAFC formalized a set of Quality Standards for member organizations.
NAFC Members voluntarily submit information to the NAFC on the various policies and procedures in place to attain their standards rating and attest/pledge that they successfully incorporate these standards within their organization.
NAFC Quality Standards elements include policies and procedures related to the following areas: Administrative, Enhanced Access and Continuity of Care, Identifying and Managing Patient Population information, Planning and Managing Care, Providing Self-Care Support and Community Resources, Tracking and Coordinating Care, and Measuring and Improving Performance.

5th Annual Rotary Club of Kissimmee West Virtual Art Exhibit Results
The Rotary Club of Kissimmee West Virtual Art Exhibit raised a total $2,910 for our food pantry from their People’s Choice voting. A Total of 27 schools in Osceola County participated with a total of 467 entries. Thank you to everyone who participated and voted!

As we navigate the ever changing circumstances created by the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), we want to keep you up to date on what we are doing to continue to serve our community, offer helpful information on how to protect yourself and what you can do to help.We also want to assure you that our programs and services continue operate while following CDC guidelines.
With our
Senior Dining
temporarily closed, we have mobilized meal delivery to the homes of each of these clients. This represents deliveries to an additional 100 clients.
Thanks to our dedicated volunteers, deliveries continue to the 300-350 home bound clients we serve through our
Meals on Wheels program
. We have also instituted preventative measures to minimize contact and ensure the safety and health of both the volunteers and clients.
In-Home Services, Case Management, Guardianship,
Building Strong Families Department
and
Clinic
remain operational serving their clients.

will be
8:00 am to 3:30 pm
and phone will be answered until 5:00 pm for those needing assistance. We are only accepting visitors by appointment only. We will require all visitors to be temperature checked, hands sanitized and wearing masks when approaching and inside the building.
Donations will continued to be accepted during adjusted office hours.

We are so fortunate to have had so many of you reach out to us asking how you can help and what you can do to ensure our community is well cared for. As an essential business we provide meals and other services to members of community in need.Your donations are more critical now than ever to ensure they continue to receive these services during this unprecedented time.
Our greatest need are contributions, both monetary and grocery items, for our community food pantry. We are trying to keep up with the new demand and increasing need to feed the community. Leveraging your monetary donations allows us to stretch your dollars to serve even more individuals.

10 Tips: Make Better Beverage Choices
What you drink is as important as what you eat. Many beverages contain added sugars and offer little or no nutrients, while others may provide nutrients but too much fat and too many calories. Here are some tips to help you make better beverage choices.
- Drink water Drink water instead of sugary drinks. Regular soda, energy or sports drinks, and other sweet drinks usually contain a lot of added sugar, which provides more calories than needed.
- How much water is enough? Let your thirst be your guide. Water is an important nutrient for the body, but everyone’s needs are different. Most of us get enough water from the foods we eat and the beverages we drink. A healthy body can balance water needs throughout the day. Drink plenty of water if you are very active, live or work in hot conditions, or are an older adult.
- A thrifty option Water is usually easy on the wallet. You can save money by drinking water from the tap at home or when eating out.
- Manage your calories Drink water with and between your meals. Adults and children take in about 400 calories per day as beverages — drinking water can help you manage your calories.
- Kid-friendly drink zone Make water, low-fat or fat-free milk, or 100% juice an easy option in your home. Have ready-to-go containers filled with water or healthy drinks available in the refrigerator. Place them in lunch boxes or backpacks for easy access when kids are away from home. Depending on age, children can drink ½ to 1 cup, and adults can drink up to 1 cup of 100% fruit or vegetable juice* each day.
- Don’t forget your dairy** When you choose milk or milk alternatives, select low-fat or fat-free milk or fortified soymilk. Each type of milk offers the same key nutrients such as calcium, vitamin D, and potassium, but the number of calories are very different. Older children, teens, and adults need 3 cups of milk per day, while children 4 to 8 years old need 2½ cups and children 2 to 3 years old need 2 cups.
- Enjoy your beverage When water just won’t do — enjoy the beverage of your choice, but just cut back. Remember to check the serving size and the number of servings in the can, bottle, or container to stay within calorie needs. Select smaller cans, cups, or glasses instead of large or supersized options.
- Water on the go Water is always convenient. Fill a clean, reusable water bottle and toss it in your bag or briefcase to quench your thirst throughout the day. Reusable bottles are also easy on the environment.
- Check the facts Use the Nutrition Facts label to choose beverages at the grocery store. The food label and ingredients list contain information about added sugars, saturated fat, sodium, and calories to help you make better choices.
- Squeeze some lemons (or limes) It's easy to make your own flavored water by adding a squeeze or wedge of lemon or lime to your water. You'll save added sugars and extra calories compared to water flavored with sugar.
*100% juice is part of the Fruit or Vegetable Group. Juice should make up half or less of total recommended fruit or vegetable intake.
** Milk is a part of the Dairy Group. A cup = 1 cup of milk or yogurt, 1½ ounces of natural cheese, or 2 ounces of processed cheese.

Hand Washing.
Proper hand-washing has the power to reduce food poisoning and significantly reduce the spread of the common cold and flu and other viruses. Help keep yourself and those around you healthy with some tips on scrubbing up.
How to Wash
- Wet hands with running water and apply soap. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, water can be warm or cold. Make sure to wash your hands front and back, up to your wrists, between fingers and under fingernails.
- Take at least 20 seconds to wash your hands — about the time it takes to sing two choruses of "Happy Birthday."
- Dry hands with disposable paper towels, clean cloth towels or air dry.
When to Wash
Always wash hands before handling, preparing or eating food and when feeding children or the elderly.
Hands also should be washed after you:
- Prepare or handle raw foods such as poultry or other meats and seafood
- Switch food preparation tasks, such as working with raw meat then cutting vegetables
- Handle egg products
- Use the restroom
- Handle garbage or dirty dishes
