Books for Spring Session

Currently, the bookstore will be OPEN from 9am - 2pm Monday through Friday. Right now they are offering FREE shipping on ANY orders placed on the website www.gordoncshop.com.
 
Also, they have partnered with their digital book provider and are offering FREE e-books that can be used until May 25th.

Gordon College PrePracticum Placements for DESE Program Approval on September 30

Students going for an initial license complete prepracticum placements, also called "field based experiences" (FBE). Those placements offer opportunities to work with students who represent socio-economic, ethnicities, race, religion, and gender differences. The prepracticum/field-based experience allows students to observe, assist, and teach mini-lessons in preparation for the practicum that teacher candidates complete to earn that initial license.
MERC Job Fair

We regret to inform you that due to COVID-19, and out of an abundance of caution, the Massachusetts Educational Recruiting Consortium is canceling our 2020 MERC Career Fair scheduled for April 23rd at Boston University. 
Massachusetts Partnership for Diversity in Education Job Fair

The MPDE annual Diversity Job Fair has been cancelled due to precautionary action around COVID-19, however, a virtual alternative has been provided. In order to connect applicants with public school district personnel during this time of social distancing, an online database for MPDE member districts to review resumes has been created. If you are interested in working with any member districts, please forward your resume to lindsayk92@mac.com .

Southern Teachers Agency

With many on-campus recruiting events cancelled across the nation, the Southern Teachers Agency offers virtual information sessions to help students learn about teaching opportunities at K-12 schools around the South.
 
If you are interested in speaking with a recruiter, a Zoom meeting can be scheduled to connect either with a group of students gathered in one place or individual students joining the meeting remotely. Southern Teachers offers a free service to candidates. For more information, click here .
Fulbright DAST Projects open for U.S. K-12 STEM and EFL Educators

Apply here for Fulbright DAST Cycle II projects- Deadline: April 27, 2020.

The Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Short-Term Program (Fulbright DAST)  sends expert U.S. K–12 educators to participating countries to support projects in schools, teacher training colleges, government ministries, or educational nongovernmental organizations, as identified by U.S. Embassies and Fulbright Commissions. Cycle 2: Projects taking place from October 2020-May 2021 in Colombia, India, Mexico, the Philippines, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Degree Conferral and Graduation Application

Gordon employs an online application for degree conferrals and graduation. All students are required to fill out an application regardless if he/she is participating in graduation. N ew applicants will be eligible to participate in the May 2021 commencement. Inf ormation from this form is used to cross-check program information, generate a degree audit, confirm diploma name, and collect money for regalia (master's hood) and diploma. To access the application, navigate to my.gordon.edu, click on the "Grad Ed Students" tab, and then click on "Graduation Application" on the left side of the screen and follow the instructions. When you fill out the application, there is an opportunity to review the degree and program you are in. If there are any discrepancies, there is a place on the application to explain any changes. Once you fill out and submit the application, Sara Warmuth Sennott will perform a degree audit, make any necessary changes to your student account, and confirm your final requirements and degree conferral period. Any questions can be emailed to her directly at Sar a.Warmuth@gordon.edu .

Wilson Reading Systems® Level 1 Certification - New Dates for 2020-2021

 Gordon College is offering an online, year-long, 10-credit Wilson Reading Systems® Level 1 Certification in the upcoming 2020-2021 school year. Wilson is dedicated to providing educators with the resources they need to help students become fluent, independent readers. Wilson is a provider of professional learning and research-based reading and spelling curricula for all ages. Its multisensory, structured curricula have proven highly effective for children who have reading difficulties.
 
Wilson Reading Systems® Level 1 Certification is as follows:

Overview of WRS® approach
EDU696 WRS® Intensive Instruction for the Non-Responsive Reader: Online Course (Steps 1-6) (6 credits)

New England Association of Teachers of English
    
The New England Association of Teachers of English invites educators and graduate students at all levels to submit workshop proposals for our fall conference October 23-24. This year’s theme is Empowering Authentic Voices and Identity: Fostering Inquiry and Engagement Through Culturally Responsive Literacy. 
NEATE values literacy and its essential role in our interactions with the world. We are looking for dynamic and interactive presentations that fit the needs of today’s educators and students. 
We seek workshops that address the conference theme and/or fit into the following strands:
  • Using writing to explore and develop identity
  • Text as a medium for social justice and civic engagement
  • Media literacy as a platform for engaging students
  • Social emotional learning that encourages student voice in the classroom
  • Additional topics relevant to the conference theme
Seventy- five minute concurrent workshops will be held on Friday and Saturday. There will also be one session each day that will contain three 25 minute round table discussions. Conference participants are appreciative of interactive presentations that can be easily adapted to the classroom.
 
Presenters (including multiple presenters) are required to register for the conference, at a $25 discount, and are encouraged to participate in all conference activities. Please use this link to submit your proposal by June 1.

Withdrawal notifications: All withdrawal notifications can be sent to our general email at  graduate-education@gordon.edu . Please reference the course number and title, year and session, with a brief explanation as to why the withdrawal is being sent. A confirmation will be sent within 2-3 days.

Reading Program Seeks Re-certification with the International Dyslexia Association
 
In 2014, Gordon College’s reading program (M.Ed. and Ed.S. degrees) joined one of seventeen schools to be certified by the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), a top honor which solidified how effective our scientifically-based reading program is for preparing our students to successfully support students who have reading/language disabilities. Fast forward to 2019 where Gordon College’s reading professors have been dedicating their time and expertise toward recertification this year. One of the many benefits of having IDA certification is its ability to keep our program in line with important scientifically-based shifts that happen in the field of literacy. As a result, our program adapts to these shifts by updating course content and program requirements. EDU613 Assistive Technology, Augmentation and Alternative Forms of Communication is a one-credit, online technology course and now a co-requisite with EDU640 Differentiation and Remediation of Reading/Language Difficulties course beginning this winter. This course will help support the reading specialist with how to use technology as a support to students who have reading/language difficulties and can also be used toward a Moderate Disabilities add-on license. Once our recertification process is complete, we will be able to promote our reading students to receive additional individual certifications and memberships through IDA.
Digital Literacy/Computer Science
   
Graduate Education has been given approval to offer the Digital Literacy/Computer Science teaching license.
 
The graduate student should have intermediate skills in this area to start the program. Within the graduate program, students complete the pedagogy courses to earn the initial license. Then they take the DLCS courses to earn the master's degree, which can be used to move the initial license to the professional license after working 3 years under their initial DLCS license. Moderate Disabilities or Social Learning Content Courses

Do you need a one-credit course to meet the relicensing requirements in special education or in social emotional learning? Sign up for these self-paced courses.
  
EDU613 Assistive Technology, Augmentative, and Alternative Forms of Communication (1) This course reviews common assistive technology, augmentative communication and alternative forms of communication for the classroom. Throughout the course, participants have the opportunity to observe and identify various ways to help their students access curriculum using these techniques. Students will also build a personal library of resources to assist their work in the classroom.
This is a Self-guided Online Course. 
 
EDU764 Developing Social Emotional Competencies Through Self-Awareness (1) This course in social and emotional learning proposes to advance the professional teacher's self-assessment to meet standards that require an inherent ability to connect with students on a human/personal level and consequently demonstrate the ability to be receptive to the social, emotional, and academic engagement of all children (Keystone Center, 2014). This is a Self-guided Online Course.

MEPID Numbers

All students are required to submit their MEPID numbers (MA state teacher number, not license number) to Gordon College for reporting purposes. Please navigate to  my.gordon.edu  > Grad Ed Students tab > MEPID Number Submission to submit your number. If you are a current teacher, you may find your MEPID number on your Educator Licensure And Renewal (ELAR) account.  
 
If you are new to teaching, then you will want to open up a Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) account as a first step toward your teaching career. This account will give you a teacher identification number and a location to check your teacher documents such as the MTELs and more as you move forward. To create an account go to  www.doe.mass.edu/educators . On that webpage, click on ELAR, then choose "Create ELAR profile." There is no cost to create an account. Please send your MEPID number to  Linda.Ramsdell@gordon.edu  or by accessing your  my.gordon.edu  account and submitting it through the MEPID module (see directions above).

Tax Information
 
To find your information for tuition, log into my.gordon, click on Student Accounts and download your 1098T form. Also, if you took EDU 615, you will get a 1098-T form because scholarships/grants are reported on the form.
Parking Stickers
 
Parking stickers are required as a student at Gordon College for your vehicle if you are driving to Gordon's campus. The sticker is free and Gordon Police is open 24x7x365, so you can stop by the main entrance booth any time and register your car with Gordon Police.
Student IDs
 
Student IDs are required as a student at Gordon College. Students who have IDs can check out materials in the library and access online library resources. They can also load printer points to print documents in the library. ID cards may be obtained by sending a photo to linda.ramsdell@gordon.edu.
Transcript Requests
 
The Registrar's Office does not offer a PDF transcript request form. All transcripts will be processed through our secure online transcript ordering system ( https://www.gordon.edu/transcripts ) or my.gordon.
