JUNE 2023

Monthly Message From Mayor Rutyna

A Call for Volunteers

For the last few weeks, I have been meeting with each of the Village boards to assess and establish updated scope and goals. The important work of each of these boards and committees is driven by the volunteer efforts of dedicated residents.

As I meet with each of the board chairs to understand membership needs, I become more aware of the extraordinary work that these bodies perform and their desire to do more. It is expected that we will have a need for more volunteers interested in giving their time to make Sleepy Hollow a better place.

To maintain a transparent process, I wanted to let everyone know about this opportunity as I have had many people reach out since the election. The process will be simple. Email us at volunteer@sleepyhollowny.org or send a letter to Village Hall to my attention. Nothing extravagant is necessary: who you are, what board or boards you are interested in helping with, and why you are interested in helping. We will schedule time to talk, review best fits with the board chairs and the Board of Trustees.  I hope this process will be complete by the end of June. Please have your email or letter to us by Monday June 12th

  • Zoning Board of Appeals
  • Warner Library Board

Environment

Beginning on Saturday, June 10th, Sleepy Hollow Environmental Advisory Committee (SHEAC) and the Climate Smart Task Force will be hosting a table once a month at the TaSH Farmers Market in Patriots Park. Please stop by to say "Hi", and learn about what you can do to help make Sleepy Hollow a more environmentally sustainable, "Climate Smart" community.

On Sunday, June 25th, SHEAC is partnering with Tarrytown Environmental Advisory Committee (TEAC) to host a Compost Giveback Day on Sunday 6/25 at John Paulding Elementary School  154 Broadway, Tarrytown. This collaborative event invites the public to bring empty bins/buckets and take home free compost.

Consider signing up for their e-newsletter and following along on instagram or facebook to learn about environmental initiatives in our Village.

SHEAC meets on the first Monday of every month. Visit sleepyholloweac.wordpress.com for more information.

Department of Public Works

Spot milling and paving has been done in a number of locations throughout the Village.

We continue the cutting and cleaning of roads and Village owned right-of-ways.

Yard Waste Collection

Picked up every Thursday. All Yard waste should be bagged and branches tied in four-foot lengths.

Please note: Gas Powered Leaf Blowers are not allowed starting May 26, 2023 until September 30, 2023.

Water Department

Hydrant Inspections and Flushing:

Regular hydrant inspection and flushing is vital in maintaining a good water

supply for both firefighting and drinking water. The Water Department will conduct

Hydrant Flushing throughout the Village 6-5-23 through 6-16-23.

Antenna replacements for water meters continues

The Water Department needs to replace the cellular communication unit within your home. This unit transmits daily water meter reads back to servers providing information needed for our water meter program.

We are required to replace these units due to recent changes in cellular technology. Customers will not be charged for the cost of this work; the unit replacement is being completed by our Village staff.
