Upcoming Events and News

 Join Pastor D. each Wednesday in Lent for a Bible Study based on the book Half Truths by Adam Hamilton. The study will coincide with the Lenten sermon series, Almost True. The study will begin on Wednesday, February, 21 , and run through Wednesday, March 20, 2024. We will meet in the Café at 6:30 pm and the study will also be streamed via Zoom.  You can purchase your books from Amazon, Cokesbury, and Barnes and Noble bookstores.

ONE DAY ONLY – THE TROOP 13 TWENTY-EIGHTH ANNUAL BBQ AND SILENT AUCTION IS FRIDAY, MARCH 8TH!

2024 marks the thirty-second anniversary of Troop 13 at UCUMC and our twenty-eighth annual Troop 13 BBQ and Silent Auction. We are selling and serving for ONE DAY ONLY - Friday, March 8. We will be serving from 10am to 8pm. Our menu includes BBQ chicken, pork BBQ, and our famous baked beans. The Silent Auction features new items as well as many returning favorites. Tickets can be purchased at the door or from any Troop 13 scout or leader. For additional information email Jesse Adams at jiadams@me.com. Silent Auction ends at 7:00 p.m. and BBQ sales at 8:00 p.m.

If you are interested in joining UCUMC or just knowing more about what it means to be a member we’d love to have you participate in this 2-week class. It will be offered on March 10 and 17 at 9:30am each week before the worship service. We will meet in room 104 in the lower level of the sanctuary building. We will cover topics such as Basic Christian Principles, brief United Methodist history, Sacraments of the United Methodist Church, Vision/Mission/Values of UCUMC, etc. At the end of the class, if you are ready to join the church, we will set up a Sunday for you to do so. If you have questions or would like to sign up for this class please contact Bert Giles – bgiles@ucumc.org.

Join us on Saturday March 23rd from 2:30-4:30 at Latta Nature Preserve-Shelter 2 for our UC Kids Family Outing!  We will be fishing in Mountain Island Lake, going on a nature hike, and creating nature crafts together.  This is a great event to invite friends and neighbors to join.  Registration is open on Realm.  If you have any questions contact Janice at jcloninger@ucumc.org.

Lent is that time of year to experience spiritual growth through reflection and fasting like Jesus did in the wilderness. Below is a list of special giving opportunities this Lenten season.

Show your Welcoming Spirit

Charlotte is lucky to host the 2024 UMC General Conference April 23 – May 3 2024 at the Charlotte Convention Center.

862 delegates from around the world will be descending on our fair city and the district would like us to show a warm southern welcome as they arrive and get settled. Delegates start arriving on April 18 and volunteers are needed at the airport, hotels, convention center, and during registration in 4-hour shifts. There is a website with details on volunteering and attending some of the activities (in person and online). Please show your welcoming spirit and sign up!

Participating In Lent                                                                                                            

Lent is a period of 40 days leading up to Easter in which the congregation is asked to give up a chosen personal pleasure. This abstinence can be anything, such as giving up a type of food or avoiding a bad habit.  Lent is February 14 – March 30.

This year we ask you to expand your reflection and LEAN into Lent.
