A big mahalo to everyone who attended services in person last Sunday, and a big thank you to the talented soloist, Emily Grace Vidier, who sang at the service.

We look forward to having her perform again for us. Our apologies to those who tried to attend our services virtually as we had a temporary internet outage. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Thank you for supporting our ministries at

the Episcopal Parish of St. Clement.

To financially assist us, please contribute here.

You might have already noticed that the Vestry has approved a new security camera system.  This has been a great concern over the past few years, especially upon the arrival of our new priest.  Since Father Brian’s arrival to us in March of this year, there have been several acts of violence and also an intruder in the school area.  Thanks be to God, and because of the vigilance of the Parish and School employees, there have been no serious injuries or infractions.  Yet, our utmost concern at the Episcopal Parish of St. Clement is the safety of the school, parish, and all our guests.

This equipment can be monitored both on the campus and online. Sound is also recorded to assist law enforcement in possible safety breaches or property loss.  We have also posted restricted area signage for the school. So, please check with the office before going into the school area so that we remain compliant with local and federal guidelines.

We are most open to hearing your ideas or suggestions as we continue to review and address our safety needs. Please direct your ideas or suggestions to Soane Lino, our Junior Warden, or Father Brian.  Mahalo!

Mahalo and blessings!

Phishing Emails from Father Brian or the Bishop

There has been a recent increase in reports of scam and phishing emails pretending to be the Bishop Robert Fitzpatrick or our priest-in-charge, The Reverend Brian G. Rallison. Whether the email requests money or not, please do not respond to anything that does not come from RLFitzpatrick@EpiscopalHawaii.Org. or priest@StClem.org

Here are a few important tips to help you recognize and avoid scams:

  • Check the email address: Do not reply solely on the sender’s name. Verify that the email address has both the correct beginning: RLFitzpatrick and the correct ending: EpiscopalHawaii.Org
  • Review the Signature Line: Legitimate emails from Bishop Bob will always contain a variation of the following:
  • Be Cautious of Urgent Requests: Phishing emails often create a sense of urgency or ask for confidential information. Bishop will never directly ask you to send cash, checks, or money orders via email or text. Though he occasionally encourages donations or support to established funds or causes, he will never add a link to an unknown source.
  • Do not click on suspicious links: Hover over any links in the email to see the actual URL before clicking. If it looks suspicious or does not match the stated domain, do not click it.

If you receive an email that you suspect may be a phishing email, please do not respond to it.  If you are suspicious of an email you have received, please reach out to the DSC or the parishʻs office. You donʻt need to forward the original email, but you are welcome to let us know about the email or to inquire if the emails are genuine.

Presiding bishop-elect denounces murder of Pennsylvania transgender teen

Presiding Bishop-elect Sean Rowe on July 10 issued a letter about the recent murder of a transgender girl near his hometown of Sharon, Pennsylvania.

The remains of 14-year-old Pauly Likens were found on June 26, indicating she had been brutally murdered and dismembered. A local television station reported on July 3 that DaShawn Watkins had been arrested in connection with the murder.

Rowe’s letter was addressed to members of the two dioceses he currently serves as bishop, Northwestern Pennsylvania and Western New York. The text of his letter follows.

Dear People of God in Northwestern Pennsylvania and Western New York:

A couple of weeks ago, some of us were attending the General Convention of the Episcopal Church, and at that convention we affirmed once again that LGBTQIA+ people are beloved children of God who should be treated with dignity and respect.

While we were away, a brutal crime unfolded near my hometown of Sharon, Pennsylvania, underscoring why we Christians must stand against the bigotry, hatred and murderous violence directed at people who live in danger due to their sexual orientation or gender identity. Pauly A. Likens Jr., a child who identified as transgender, was killed and her scattered remains were found at the Shenango Reservoir in Mercer County. A suspect is in custody, and he has been charged with first-degree murder.

It is hard to overstate the horror of this situation. A young person whose 15th birthday passed while she was missing has been taken from us in the most brutal way imaginable. She is not the only transgender child of God to have been murdered, in our region or elsewhere, simply for being who they are. I fear these kinds of incidents are due, in part, to extremist political rhetoric that advocates oppression and discrimination against some of the most vulnerable members of our society.

In my ministry, I have met many transgender followers of Jesus whose witness to the Gospel is deepened by their journeys to live authentically and to be the people God is calling them to be. In our church, faithful transgender people lead in ministries of every description. As laypeople, priests and deacons, they make essential contributions to their congregations, communities and dioceses. Transgender people deserve not only the same civil rights and guarantees of legal protection as any other person, but also the dignity and respect we accord to every child of God. More than that, they deserve to live in safety.

I ask you to pray for the repose of the soul of Pauly Likens, for Pauly’s family in their unimaginable grief, and for transgender people everywhere who are frightened by this savage killing. Pray too for the person who has been arrested for the crime, whose life has been destroyed by sin and fear. Most of all, I implore you to stand against hatred of transgender people in your community, your school, and wherever you encounter it, and be a source of God’s love for the transgender people in your life.

Faithfully,

+Sean

DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH REMINDS PUBLIC TO BE VIGILANT DUE TO HIGH COVID-19 ACTIVITY LEVELS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 12, 2024                                                                                               24-080

HONOLULU —The Hawai‘i State Department of Health (DOH) reminds the public to be vigilant due to high levels of COVID-19 activity in Hawai‘i. The DOH Respiratory Disease Dashboard (https://health.hawaii.gov/docd/disease-types/respiratory-viruses/) shows COVID-19 disease activity level is in the red, or high activity level, indicating the virus is circulating at high levels compared with historic trends. This high level means that recommended precautions are more important for reducing risk.

DOH continues to monitor this activity and recommends the following:

  • Get your COVID-19 shot if you have not yet received the 2023-24 COVID-19 vaccine, or if you are eligible for an additional dose (adults 65 and over and those with immune compromise). Keeping up to date lowers your risk of severe illness, hospitalization and death from COVID-19.
  • If you are feeling sick, stay home and away from others. Return to usual activities only if fever-free for at least 24 hours without use of fever-reducing medicines, and symptoms are improving. After returning to usual activities, wear a mask when around people indoors for five additional days to avoid spreading germs to others. Consider testing when you will be around people at higher risk of severe disease.
  • Wearing a well-fitting mask indoors with other people can help protect yourself and those around you, especially if you are recovering from COVID-19 symptoms.
  • Staying outdoors or in well-ventilated areas is a simple action that can help reduce COVID transmission.
  • Practice good hygiene. Cover your coughs and sneezes, clean frequently touched surfaces, and wash your hands often.
  • Take a COVID-19 test if you have symptoms and might need treatment. Antiviral treatments for COVID-19 and influenza can prevent hospitalization and death. Treatments work best when taken as soon as possible after symptoms begin.
