Applicants sought for Venice advisory boards
Want to get involved in the community, but aren’t exactly sure how? Volunteering on a City of Venice advisory board is an excellent way to get started. Three boards currently have or will have vacancies:
The Historic and Architectural Preservation Board (HAPB) has a vacancy for a resident seat. All HAPB members, other than members who are registered architects, shall be City residents or the owners of real property located within the City. HAPB members shall have a demonstrated commitment to historic preservation and, to the extent possible, shall be professionals or retired professionals from the disciplines of: 1. Historic preservation; 2. History, archaeology, folklore, or anthropology; 3. Architecture, historic architecture, or architectural history; 4. Land use planning or historic preservation planning; 5. Real estate, land development, general or building contracting; 6. Landscape architecture or historic landscape architecture; 7. Conservation, curation, or museology; 8. Preservation law; 9. Professional engineering; or 10. Finance. This board meets the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 9 a.m. in City Hall Council Chambers.
The Citizen Tax Oversight Committee has two seat terms that are expiring soon. This board meets at least annually and otherwise as needed in Council Chambers to conduct an annual review of the expenditures made by the City from the sales tax proceeds to ensure that expenditures have been made in accordance with infrastructure project lists and any changes thereto. The board meets as needed to review any changes made by the City to the infrastructure projects or to the allocation of sales tax proceeds for the sole purpose of ensuring that all procedural requirements have been followed. Members shall be residents of the City of Venice. No member may be a full-time employee of the City or private individuals or employees of private firms under contract with the City.
The Citizen Advisory Board (CAB) has an open student seat. The student should be from a Venice area high school student body with a written recommendation by the principal or its designee. The Citizen Advisory Board may be directed by City Council to research specific topics to provide information to Council; provide feedback on programs to preserve and enhance quality of life in Venice; assist Council with promoting or educating the public on matters of importance; or other special activities in keeping with Council’s adopted Strategic Plan. CAB meetings shall be held as necessary in Council Chambers to meet the general duties and responsibilities set out herein.
Application deadline is Tuesday, April 16, 2024.
